From the ABQ Journal--

By a 48-16 vote, the member schools of the New Mexico Activities Association have voted to institute wood bats for next year, on a one-year trial basis.

In a state where altitude and wind play a huge role in offensive production, this should help bring some balance back to the game. With 48 coaches voting in favor, there had to have been a lot of support even at the smaller programs. I'm sure the players will be fine with it. Coaches too will adapt--the emphasis will return to fundamentals and pitching. I think this is great news for HS baseball fans!
There has been quite a few "prospects" out of New Mexico the past few years. In a state with a population of only 2 million, NM kids hold their own.

U of New Mexico has made the regionals the last two years with quite a few NM home grown boys.

New Mexico:
Cody Ross
Kyle Blanks
Matt Moore (Tampa Bay top prospect)
Max Walla (2nd round pick)
Jordan Pacheco (Team USA) AAA Rockies
James Parr (in the Bigs 2 years ago with the Braves)

2 AFLAC All Americans
Blake Swihart - 1st Rounder (Team USA)
Alex Bregman - (USA Baseball National Player of the year) - LSU Committment

There are kids from NM at ASU, OK State,Cornell, U of San Fran, ect...

Kids in NM have been playing Connie Mack, Premier, and Fall Showcases with wood for the last decade. This is just another 3 months of using wood.
