Perfect Game has made changes to their rating system, which started with this year's ID camp evaluations. The ratings are much more conservative then before.

9 -- Potential top 20 round pick, Top DI prospect
8 -- Potential draft pick, DI prospect or Juco prospect
7 -- DI to DII or Juco prospect
6 -- DII or Juco prospect
5 -- DII to DIII or Juco prospect
4 -- DIII prospect
3 -- Potential to play at some level
2 -- High School
1 -- No prospect

OLD PG Ratings
10 -- Potential very high draft pick, Top DI in the nation prospect
9 -- Potential top 10 round pick, Top DI prospect
8 -- Potential mid round pick, definite DI prospect
7 -- Potential low round pick, DI prospect or top level Juco, DII
6 -- Possible DI prospect, definite DII or Juco prospect
5 -- Possible DII prospect or mid range Juco prospect
4 -- Possible low level DII or high level DIII prospect
3 -- Possible DIII or low level Juco prospect

I noticed this, but I'm confused because the reports they just posted for the indoor showcases use the "old" rating system. So it looks like the ID showcases don't use the same rating as the others.

It looks like the main difference is pushing the draft-prospect rating higher.

Both systems base ratings on level of NCAA division. Is this valid when when not discussing "top" levels? For example, low-level DI vs. top-level DII.

PG Staff response from the Perfect Game site: We developed a new grading system recently. It went into affect with the ID Camps. The new system will be used throughout this coming year.
It looks like they will be more conservative in projecting a player's draft and college possibilities. It makes sense as so much goes into draft picks and overall rankings which can change drastically right up until draft time. Giving a more conservative rating may keep an uninformed parent or player from getting their hopes up(?) The PG evaluation on what a player does well and what to improve should be taken more seriously than the overall rating IMO.

04CatcherDad - I agree with you about college divisions and actual levels of play. The division is not a true deciding factor. IMO the PG use of the term seems to be as general categories for "levels of baseball played".
