Welcome to the site and congratulations on having a great kid Smile
After your son thanks his HS coach, he should ask him how the college got his name, where they may have seen him and what it was that created interest in him so that he can follow up with the college appropriately.
This will give him (and you) the answer and also help him follow up properly.
Continue to show appreciation to the HS coach for facilitating the process so that he is likely to continue to do so should more opportunities arise.
Then, make sure he gets back to putting 99% of his attention on enjoying his HS season.
Best of luck and keep us informed.
Welcome to the site!

The database of a DI program is very large. However, at least you know there's some degree of awareness there; even if it might be small. Since programs have limited opportunities to communicate with players your son's age, he shouldn't miss the opportunity to make it a two-way communication by completing it promptly and expressing his interest in their program if he is, in fact, interested in it.

The ball is squarely in your son's court to (1) work each and every day to become a better player and student, (2) communicate his interest to programs that make sense to him, and (3) put himself in position to be seen by the coaches of relevant programs. There are a variety of ways of accomplishing numbers (2) and (3); but, essentially it's up to him to find the right combination of ways to accomplish them. As I mentioned in a thread on this topic not long ago, it is in this way that he'll upgrade his status from being one of many to one of the relatively few they consider true recruits a little ways down the path.

Best of luck to him!
