Hi,

We are new to this website and would appreciate any direction on specific forums for what we are looking for or just plain advice.

We have a 15 year old freshman who is very good! He plays second and shortstop.

As parents, of course, we think he is good, but we listen to what others say and everyone that has watched him over the years play with the summer youth foundation feel he has a lot of potential to go to college and play.

We have been faced with a dilema that now he is in high school. In order to focus more on his baseball - as parents - we want him to not play basketball, but this is his decision. He plays football, basketball, track and his greatest love is baseball.

We would also like to find him a team to play with all year around, but not sure where to start or who to contact.

In our area we would have to travel to Tyler, Longview or Dallas. How do we find a team for him to try out?

How soon do you begin contacting colleges to take a look at him?

We are in a D3 district and the coaches are not big on helping the students at all.

Lot's of questions - and we appreciate any advice or help you can offer.

Let me give it some thought and I'll get back to you if I can help.

You have discovered the Mother Lode with the HSBBW. You have asked quite a few questions but I'm certain that they'll all be answered soon. In the meantime surf around the site and explore the different forums...some will be right up your alley.

Welcome aboard and check in frequently ...your questions are being contemplated as we speak...cyber speak that is!

Welcome TX,

One area that you will more then likely spend time in will be the Texas Forum of the Highschool Baseball Web.

Also the Ask About Colleges will be an area that will help you and your son out. Along with Recruiting Questions.

Make sure you check out the Recruiting Timeline Section of the site it is a great assest as well.

Feel free to ask any question ou have, and don't be afraid that it is a stupid question, or be run off by one or two peoples negative responses or energy. As a whole this is by far the best forum that you will find to help your son out.

Hope to hear from you soon, and Goodluck!

There are quite a few posters here from Texas.

Secondly, there is the site menu that you can use to get some of the answers you are seeking about the timeline for HS recruiting. You can find it by simply moving your cursor to the upper left and it pops out from the side.

For most better HS players you can find your local AABC representative for 18 & under which is the Connie Mack division level baseball teams.

Then there is also the 16U-18U AAU teams

and the separate levels of Babe Ruth level teams that play during the summer after the HS Spring Baseball seasons are over.

Hope this helps
Thanks everyone for all the responses so far.

We have been reviewing this site all day, printed out the timeline, which I must say is GREAT!

We are in the process of building Eric a website so that when the high school season starts whether he is on V or JV we can video tape and post his plays to the site. Has anyone else done this. Pros vs. Cons?

Thanks so much for any and all the assistance.

To date - this is the most informative site yet on high school baseball.
Welcome to the hsbbweb and I might also add a big "Howdy, neighbor!" I live not very far from you in Palestine, the Dogwood City. Big Grin

My son is a soph RHP/OF/DH at OU. We used to travel to Mineola as well as other towns in your area when he played youth ball and high school and some summer ball. In fact, he played with the Mineola Bombers the summer after he graduated in 2003. He loved that team which was made up entirely of boys from small East Texas towns. They were a very competitive team as well.

Ryan started playing select ball when he was 13 and we traveled to Dallas for several years as he played on several different teams in that area. It was a lot of driving but we don't regret a minute of it because the competition helped him develop into the D-1 college player that he is today.

If I can be of any help to you please email me or send me a private message. My email is on my profile page along with a little personal info.

Again welcome to the site! I am an "Old Timer" although a lot of my posts were lost sometime ago when there was a site crash, so my post count isn't very accurate, but that doesn't really matter. I don't post a lot anymore but I read a lot and am still learning a lot, too. There is a goldmine of baseball knowledge represented on this site and you will be glad you found it! Enjoy!! Smile

txbb, you will need to go to Dallas to get the top tier select teams, IMHO. If you have not seen the top select teams in Texas play, be prepared for an eye opening experience. There is some pretty incredible ball among the best clubs from Dallas, Houston, Austin & San Antonio. Playing with one of those teams will help your son find out where he stands.

Some of those include DBAT, Dallas Mustangs, Dallas Tigers, etc.

Go to the Texas forum and post the question on Dallas area select teams. Ask for the pros & cons of the various teams. You should have plenty of responses.
