Just wondering if anyone can tell me where to stay in NYC to see a Yankees game. Sons have 2 tickets that we bought through Stub Hub (anyone know anything about them?) and now we are working on finding a hotel and cheap ( Roll Eyes) transportation options. Any suggestions would be MOST welcome. You can email me (listed in profile) or reply to this post. Thanks in advance for responding!

We went a few years ago and we took a tour of the stadium before the game. I highly suggest that especially since there will be a new stadium next year. We got to sit in the dugout and got in trouble for calling the bullpen. Big Grin Somedays they will let you tour the locker room but we didn't get to. Sat in press box, walked in the outfield, toured the legends section. Awesome, just awesome.

There's a YouTube video of what their fans do to the enemies.

You should go to Fenway instead where your Yankee hat will be greated with a big smile and a hearty handshake.

I agree about attending not a game at YS, but disregard such inferior self images. The real baseball is indeed played 120 miles northeast. If you must attend a game in NYC, make sure you hire professional personal security regardless of which teams gear you wear, but wear your Red Sox gear proudly and tell any yankee bandwagon fan with a problem with your lid to simply get lost.

Red Sox fans, walk around like you own NYC....You do. Smile

You might consider staying in New Jersey and taking the Yankee Clipper (boat).

As I remember, you can catch it from Hoboken (possibly other Jersey places) where the offset in local lodging costs may be enough to cover the round trip ($20?).

If its good weather its a lot of fun... and gives a view of NY that you can't see any other way.
Don't know if this is too late?

My son and I just returned from a trip to Cooperstown and Yankee Stadium.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Flushing. A small, but very nice (and relatively cheap) hotel. 4 blocks from a subway station. It's about an hour trip on the subway to the Stadium, but it'll cost you $4 roundtrip and is easy, only have to change trains once each way and it stops right at Yankee Stadium.
You definitely don't want to drive, parking is especially bad with the new stadium construction and a taxi will be expensive.

Feel free to contact me if I can be any more help.

Thank you RealDan..that is what I was looking for..my sons think they want to stay in Times Square...my hubby and I are a little apprehensive about that! their trip is not till August..glad to hear about StubHub..I saw an ad for that site on the Yankees homepage so I figured it was reputable.

thanks to all for your comments and help!
Hi again.

When I was younger, I used to make the occasional weekend trip to NYC, to run the marathon, visit bookstores, etc. I usually stayed in Manhattan, but never right in Times Square.
I'm sure there are nice, safe hotels in that area, but I would expect them to be quite expensive! I don't know the prices now, I didn't even bother checking there for this trip. I knew we didn't want to stay in Manhattan, plus we went to Cooperstown first and so were driving down to NYC and I absolutely didn't want to deal with driving in NYC, so I looked for something in Flushing/Queens and something relatively cheap. Not that that's where they'd want to stay or anything, but I would definitely not hesitate to recommend it. Don't know if other Comfort Inn's are the same but we were pleasantly surprised. It ran me ~$140/night for 2 double beds. I would have to believe that Manhattan would be considerably higher. Also of note, where we stayed was 1 subway stop away from Shea Stadium.

You can get anywhere you want to go by subway, for $2. It's easy to navigate, etc. and as safe as anything else (now, I wouldn't ride it late at night unless with a crowd, at least in certain areas).

Also, the Stadium tours do fill up. You can sign up ahead of time for the tours on the Yankees website and print out your tickets ahead of time.

Also there is a Stadium "A-Z Guide" on the Yankees site that's worth reading. I will tell you that it says NO backpacks, large purses, etc. are allowed, but I took a bag with us to carry our gloves, binoculars, etc. that I was prepared to toss if they wouldn't let me take it in, and they didn't even check it! I tried to open it for the guy who was taking tickets and he just said "that's not my job"!
Guess security has relaxed a bit!

Good luck.
thanks for all the tips RD..I haven't spent alot of time looking for a hotel yet but plan on getting that done soon..got the game tickets and the plane tickets so I'm ahead right now. I will definitely keep all this in mind. Can I order tickets for the stadium tour now? I thought on the website it says the tickets don't go on sale until the Sunday before?? or am I just confused?
I am originally from the area. If you are renting a car stay in new jersey. Rte 4 goes right into the GW Bridge and easy access to Yankee stadium. Do not park in the stadium lots it takes forever to get out of them. Park a block or two away just south of the stadium even then it takes awhile to get out. I've also been to many Bosox vs Yankee games and in the 70's it wasn't safe for a red sox fan. It has gotten better. In general most fans leave people alone but there are always a few crazies that will start something just like in Boston. Just walk away from them.
We use to live in Upstate NY, now in Texas.

When we travel to see the Yankees / NYC, we stay at the Teaneck (New Jersey) Marriott at Glenpointe Located at the crossroads of I-95 and I-80, three miles from the George Washington Bridge, and 15 minutes from Yankees Stadium (7.5 Miles) & Manhattan.

We would get the weekend rate of $99 per night.

Flintoide and fam just spent 4 days in Manhattan with a Yankee Stadium tour and game. The tour was great. I had my man bag confiscated at the game after having it cleared for the tour, the only sour note. The people were great, subway practical. Coach Merc's advise to go to McSorleys in the Village was right on! We spent $129 for a suite in the Riverside Towers.http://www.riversidetowerhotel.com/
