It never fails ....this time of year things get over the edge. You can almost set your calendar by it. Call it cabin fever or whatever you would like. Maybe it's just a lack of baseball!

There are 18 members that can delete a post, close a thread or eliminate it completely. The message boards do not have the ability to find and reinstate a deleted topic. I do have the resource to check who has deleted a post of topic.

The site has 4 - 5 thousand posts per day, on average, it is not possible for one person to monitor all those posts. Much like everyone else some of the topics here do not interest me, others do. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have found folks willing to give up a little of their time and help monitor these boards. For that kindness they are disparaged, called nazis and dictators and other comments not fit to print here.

I have made this statement before and will do so again now .... If you don't like the way these boards are moderated GO AWAY now! I am happy with the results, 99% of our members are happy with the results. I have seen too many other sports related message boards where 1% or less of the users ruin the entire forum. The High School Baseball Web will not be one of those places.

I cherish this place and so many of the members, like everyone else there are some that I could live without, but they have the right to visit and comment, within the boundaries of our general decorum principles. I don't need anyone to "stand up" for me.

The easiest thing to do would be to pull the plug on this site .... that's not gonna happen! There are new members daily, more folks to help along the way. 95 newbies this month alone!

Most of you would be horrified if you read some of the PM's and emails that I get from folks related to this site! I feel sure that by now I have been accused of being responsible for the Lindberg baby kidnapping, several parent's sons not playing college baseball, have been threatened with lawsuits and on occasion with personal harm.

What keeps me going are the very kind emails from the folks that this site has helped, when I receive a baseball card from one of our members who's son has been drafted and is on his way to the "bigs." I love the emails sharing personal milestones and happy moments, most not baseball related. I love that we have twin grand babies that are doing well, that another young man has just completed his first semester of college with 3 - A's and a B+, after so many physical troubles to overcome.

I can live forever without the folks that raise heck with me because I will not endorse their "brand new and revolutionary" recruting service. Personally I laugh about some of our "experts" that really only have one claim to fame ... their son was blessed with more athletic ability than the average kid.

On the other hand I will forever be indebted to so many wonderful folks. Those that have helped myself and all of our members without anything "in it" for them. Folks like Jerry Ford (Perfect Game), Tom Rizzi (College Select) who each run well respected high school player showcases. I have personal knowledge of these two gentlemen going well beyond what would be considered reasonable to help a player and his family find the right school. And for parents just like the rest of us except that they have the gift of common sense and logic, without rose colored glasses, folks like Fungo, HiwasseeVol, BamaBomber, Chill, 02^04mom, AParent, bbscout, hokieone, jemaz, OPP, Justmom, redbird and others. Any of us can ask these wonderful people a question and get an honest sincere response. Some of them have taken on the full time task of keeping me in line!

We also have a growing number of college coaches and professional scouts that stop by these forums. So many of them have dropped me a note to tell me they have visited.

Having rambled on and on ... I will close with this comment .... Moderators can be removed and some folks that use these forums are "ex" moderators. Our current group of moderators is doing a great job and will remain intact for the foreseeable future. My sincere thanks to all of these folks.

Bob,

Glad to hear you aren't giving up or giving in. I was a member on the old site and love the new site even more. This site is about the first thing I check every day. I try to stay positive so rarely post on the topics that get out of hand. I very much enjoy hearing about all the sons (and daughters) and their trials, tribulations and success.

God bless and good luck to all this coming year.
Bob,

You are so right. This sight does have a bunch of very respectable folks with a a wide base of knowledge and experience. Those folks have been extremely helpful to me over the years, as I am sure they have been for many others.

I am grateful that they, and yourself are willing to continue giving their advice, and opinions. It is hard to donate your time and effort when a handful of discontent folks turn ugly, or when you are accused of having ulterior motives. But for these folks it is obvious helping young baseball players is their nubmer one goal.

This sight is a wonderful tool for those who understand the concept of listening.

We are grateful as always. May you and your loved ones have a wonderful Holiday Season.
Happy Holidays Bob and family.

I don't post alot, my boys are playing college ball, but I still come here several times a day to read posts, learn, and recently get riled with some of the "cabin fever" posts.

This is the best site to come to and read "how to's". I honestly don't believe mine would be playing college ball if it weren't for this site.

All the "agenda's" Dang, do you guys really care that my 04 was the only player in his class not asked to suit up for the State Championship game and thus not get a ring for the win? Oh the whinning I could do! But as I said HE is playing college ball, only 3 of the 6 '04's are. He has a place to play this summer as well.

What I really like is physically meeting others, or their sons. I treasure meeting OPP's son, Zack, as do my sons. What fun I had talking with Bob in TN, another time in GA, and then right here in town. I hope to meet Bighit's son this summer if he goes to Hickory, and anyone else's son on here that will play for or against the Asheville Tourists Sally League Single A ball. Unless it was Limom's son and I would really have to think that one over for a bit.

So chill out everyone, I don't care if your son is better than mine at baseball. I don't care if you say do it this way or that, mine are going to do as their coaches tell them to do. But I will tell you this! ANYONE who says bad things about Bob is going to ruffle my feathers.
And that is NOT something you want to do... Ask my sons!

Merry Christmas to all!
Bob,

I would personaly like to express a heart-felt "Thank You" for this web site. Without a doubt this site and some of the members were instrumental in helping my oldest receive a baseball scholarship. Without this site he probably would have never played college ball.

I have found an abundance of information here and still refer to and share information from this site with my current project (11 yo).

This site is a fantastic resource and I refer as many people as I can here. Thank you so much for putting up with me when I was an abrasive newbie. I am still embarrassed at some of my posts!

Have a wonderful Holiday and God Bless to you and all of the HSBASEBALLWEB family.

Ross.
Bob ...

Please know that us Left Coasters think you are a blessing for what you provide for those looking for info and those of us who have been around and experienced what others are hoping to experience.

We also thank "Mrs HSBBW" for her support, because we know if she weren't behind you on this endeavor, it would be nothing like it is.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
Bob,

Very well put. HSBaseballweb is more than just a website, it's a community. There's lots of baseball related sites and discussion forums out there, but it's the real people behind the content that makes HSBaseballweb a special place. Happy Holidays and God Bless to all the folks behind HSBaseballweb, as well as those driving other quality organizations like PG, AABC, etc., that serve to promote the sport and these dedicated young men that have such unique abilities and dreams.

I've worked in the computer business for a very long time ... I've witnessed the birth of e-mail and 'bulletin boards' dicussion forums long before there was a public Internet. One thing has been constant with the growth of textual communications: people forget that human beings are hardwired to use a great deal of visual and auditory cues in their communications. Facial expressions, body language, hand movements, and tonal qualities all provide a great deal of information as we communicate. Text-only forms of communication leave us deaf and blind ... which leads to an enormous amount of mis-communication. People say things in writting that they would never say in person without careful consideration. We mis-interpret written text because we 'hear' it with our own internal voice and assumed tonal inflections. Also, most people are simply not very good at written forms of communication and choose poor phrasing or words that mean different things to different people ... there's a good reason everyone doesn't write novels.

I once had a couple of software engineers working for me that let their e-mail flame-war go so far that they refused to speak to each other ... they would only communicate via e-mail ... and they sat 10' away from each other sharing the same office. I turned off their e-mail access and made them work together the "old fashioned" way for awhile ... by talking to each other ... after walking into their office and saying "just turn around, look at each other, and say 'hello' ... now, how stupid do you feel?".

A saying I've always liked when it comes to e-mail, discussion forums, etc., is "never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity". Now this isn't to say people are stupid ... just that we all occasionally do or say 'stupid' things ... especially if you ask my wife about me Smile. When it comes to typing things out in an text-only communication, a lot of our normal "don't be stupid, stupid" internal mental circuit breakers get switched off.

All that said ... in general, we should all cut each other a little slack. And, we all need to recognize we're communicating to beings that are genetically programmed to rely heavily on visual and auditory cues ... so we have to spend that little extra effort to make sure our written text clearly conveys our intent and has carefully chosen words and phrasing to substitute for this profoundly one-dimensional form of communication.

End of stupid dissertation Smile ... Happy Holidays to all my fellow HSBaseballwebsters. Like the rest of you, I just consider myself blessed to have a reason to visit with you at this site ... My son.

Bob,

Quite simply, the best baseball site on the internet. Informative to the max, supported by many many knowledgeable folks, from practically every baseball angle imaginable (player, coach, fan, high school parent (HSP), college player parent (CPP), scout, HS coach, showcase gurus, JPP's (just plain parents), even a lawyer or two or three (hey, even Ivory is only 99.6% pure), folks full of knowledge, folks full of experience, and a few perhaps just full of it.

This is the first place I refer anyone with high school baseball-wanna-go-to-college questions.

Thank you, thank you, thank you !

H-1, HSP, CPP, JPP, JD

Go Hokies!

p.s We will discontinue all discussion of ACC sports until baseball season arrives. Yes, Virginia, there is basketball in Blacksburg-can you shoot?
I am still pretty new to this site, but I must admit I look forward to reading the postings everyday.

My son is only a freshman,so we don't know what his future has in store for him. I hope he is lucky enough to pursue his passion in baseball beyond the high school level. I certainly have been reading a lot of great advice right here, that would help us along the way.
Bob,

HSBB web site is unique. You have poured countless hours into providing us all with an avenue for knowledge. Some follow the road, while a few run off into the ditch.

While I seldom post now, I still read the posts daily. I can't begin to tell you how much entertainment and enlightenment that I have gotten from my daily visits.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.

Be good,
David
I heared tell they were acshually 10-0 but nobody could count that high...

Being the season of glad tidings and joy, I will refrain from getting into a verbal joust with my wonderful friend from the city concerning the endeavors of the hoops team over in the hills, especially since my beloved Hokies will be Hokie Toasties for much of the ACC in basketball this winter, but I can almost hear the line they will pitch to recruits: "You can start next year in the ACC" If there were a Truth in Recruiting law, they'd add, "but of course you'll lose by 30".

Gotta start somewhere so it may as well be on the bottom, but mark my words, we'll upset somebody in the ACC this winter.

HS Baseball web might very well be the single greatest resource available to HS players and their parents. The topics, the links as well as the conversation is timely and informative.

It is a shame that more people cannot simply appreciate the site for what it is and what it provides.

Thanks for your dedication to the cause. You are doing a great job.
Don't post much but read daily.

Found this site in the spring of 2001. Was very helpfull for (04)son all the way through HS. Thanks Bob

Son is now a freshman in college and I am looking forward to his first college season.

Met Bob at a The PG World Wood Bat in fall of 03 and he is as helpfull in person as he is by having this site.

Looking forward to learning even more for my (2010) son. Thanks again Bob and hope to cross paths again soon.
