Hi I'm going to be 16 years old in April and I'm currently a sophomore in high school in Westchester County, NY and a LHP. As I move up through levels I begin to realize the importance of several new, little nuances of the game. Now that I'm at the stage I'm at, the varsity team at school will depend on me throughout much of the season, as will my 18u summer team (Westchester Wolfpack). While these things obviously seem great to the eyes and ears, I also realize that for the most part, being in New York is an incredibly negative thing for me in terms of getting my name out for colleges (nothing against schools around here, but traditionally the further south you go the better baseball there is. And, I just hate the cold Razz). Right now I am about 5'10" 170-175 lbs. (depending on what scale I use) and I have a fastball clocking 80. I have a big curve and a solid circle changeup that is very effective when I can locate it. In your opinion(s), what do you think I should/can do to get myself and my name out there? I know its a pretty broad question but I'm looking for very broad responses, whether it be in terms of drills I can do working out to strengthen whatever I need to strengthen or whether it be specific showcases or tournaments that are recommended. I'd love any other opinions and help on this matter. Thanks!

thanks for the info guys yea i planned on going to some camps. do you think showcases are necessary at this stage or are the camps the best bet for now? ive gotten a lot of stuff from perfect game, and my summer team goes to a lot of college select stuff so i dont know...

lefty- where in new york are you from?
LEFTY - SHOWCASE SHOWCASE SHOWCASE - Do not get caught up in this find the best summer team and play on it. Harder then it sounds and not needed at all !!! to be recruited by a college. Showcase baseball is the road you should take. College Select is a great start. You like the south Showcase south. But their is no place like home (NORTHEAST BASEBALL) do not over look it !
coachdad-

I am playing for the Westchester Wolfpack (18u) team based out of Bedford, NY. The team is fairly cheap comparing to others (the coach doesn't make a profit), and the competition is high quality. We attend several College Select events like in Rhode Island and South Carolina, and also NABF and ECTB regional events. What I was asking is if you believe it is necessary to attend these individual showcases as a sophomore. Is it too early and too young? Or is it the right time to start? If so, what are some good recommended showcases that aren't totally ridiculous cost-wise? Just looking for some open-ended suggestions. Thanks!
If you want to play in the south you have to contact schools that you like and either showcase for them send a video and sey up a web page with videos and your ibfo. Most southern warm weather coaches don't stray far from home.
I found the Long Island tournament in the fall good and also the NY qualifier Connie mack was good for local schools from the surrounding areas.
