Eat your heart out high school parents, except those in 12 month a year baseball climates; opening day is now 6 weeks away. Sons go back to college in two weeks, 4 weeks of practice, then it's Game On! Kind of odd, I now keep the batting cage up till Christmas Break is over, then retire the net until summer ball rolls around.
Throwing (okay, soft tossing) BP has been wonderful over the break, but a game of one on one basketball with a college athlete is not what the doctor recommended for my 53 year old body. It gets harder and harder to even score-I cheat, foul, hack, talk trash, whine-in short, every father trick known, and still get whupped. Experience is over-rated, give me quickness and youth any day of the week.
Proof that gravity is getting stronger: a once proud vertical jump of 30"+ in college football days has now dwindled to something like 2-3 inches..on a good day. And my joints tell me that jogging is okay but forget this starting, stopping, and cutting. I'm now a rock on defense-the Rock of Gilbraltar. No lateral movement whatsoever.
Enjoy the holidays, Opening Day is around the corner.
