now that ive seen nick swisher pitch im sure hes the greatest yankee ever! babe ruth would come close but he certainly didnt have a 0 ERA ! he simply threw 75 mph fastballs and baffled hitters with every pitch!
honestly though i love watching the way he plays, he's loose relaxed and enjoys every second of the game. (so it seems)

I hear...I love watching him too. Did you see Posada's interview after the game? He was asked what he thought about when people were laughing- and he cut the question off, and said, "Nobody was laughing. Nobody was laughing. We are dissapointed in the way we played, nobody was laughing." I don't know what he saw, but guys were having a good time. Even Joe Girardi said it was OK but it helps you get over such a bad loss.
Please dont take this post the wrong way because it is NOT an attack on you. But I personally can not stand the way he plays or acts on the baseball field. Your getting your butt kicked. Your on the mound laughing and acting like its a joke. Swisher is one of my least favorite players because I think he acts like a clown on the baseball field.

If you want to have fun then win. Your paying these Yankees how much money a year? And your getting pounded so bad you have to put Nick on the hill because you gave up to fight another day. And then the guy gets out there and he is laughing in his glove.

If one of my players acted like that I really dont know what I would do. I would be so peed off , I just dont know what I would do. Some think its cool and cute and Look those guys were having so much fun. Personally I think its a joke and so is he.

Again , this is not an attack on you. Just my opinion and how it made me feel when I saw it. And everytime I see him laugh when he strikes out or clowning on the baseball field I feel the same way about him.
Coach May, I was watching and wondering if anyone else would have taken away from that debacle as you so clearly explained. Your team is getting ***=whipped and you're on the mound laughing and giggling like a little kid because you struck someone out? Then he threw the ball into the dugout. That was so unprofessional and showed a level of disrespect to the game.

There's plenty of room for flair in our game; Ozzie Smith, Ricky Henderson, K Rod and many, many others. But, this was so bush league that of everything that happened in that game, if I were Joe Girardi I think Swisher's attitude would have made me the most irate. JMO.

I totally agree with Coach May's post.

Look, there are all different types of personalities in the game. I can't speak how others should act. I can only comment how I like to see ballplayers conduct themselves. I like to see guys who take winning and losing seriously. I believe sports is about winning and think the fun of sports is when you win. After the game, there is a time and place for celebrating or goofing around. Obviously, there are exceptions to things but I like guys who "look" like they are trying to win the game.

Coach May,

I completely agree with your post. I'm not a fan of Swisher, and watching that inning he pitched was an embarrassment in my opinion. Did anyone notice that the announcers said he apparently rolled the ball into the dugout after he struck out Kapler? What a joke...I told my brother that I thought he'd get drilled in the next game. Garza did come up and in one time....then Swisher took him deep, so I guess he gets the last laugh, but I thought he acted like a clown (as usual as Coach May said).
i understand there are two perspectives about the whole laughing and joking while your teams down its not great, but in a 162 game season, why dog the fact that one of your pitchers blew the game AGAIN, ching ming ******* isnt the fault of anyone else but him, he should be mad, everyone else did their job and sure the guys are all ****ed off but about getting crushed. but to play in the MLB for most guys, you need to have a short memory span because the rate of failure is SO HIGH and enjoy the fun moment win or lose, or youll kill yourself by the end of the season.

this seems to me like the whole concept is very similar to the coaches that doesnt want the players to enjoy life on the bus ride back from a loss, and then theres the coaches that say deal with it the way you deal with it and just enjoy life, and im from that second school of thought.
Yeah its no big deal. Just have some fun Yankees. And while your at it get a big tent to put over your new stadium and just call it what it is. A circus full of clowns.

You obviously have no pride Yankees. I guess I am just old school. But I have never laughed when I was getting my butt handed to me. So dont get excited when you win and act like you care when you win. Because if you dont care when you lose you cant care if you win.

One thing I kept thinking about while he was up there on the mound was somewhere there is a kid that has busted his butt his whole life to get one shot on a ML hill and never got it. "And this guys does?"

They either all matter or none of them do. I am sure others will disagree thats fine. I am just not wired that way. I play to win everytime out. I play to the end no matter what. I dont believe there is a reason to disrespect the game or your opponent. But hey , Im a little different I guess.
Personalities like Swisher fit in NY because playing in NY is a pressure cooker and some guys can't hack it because it gets in their heads. Swisher's a goofball and you need to be loose like that in October and to be able to hack NY. Look at Manny. Who else can go after a flyball laughing, make a leaping grab, high-five a fan and throw out a runner at second to complete a double play. Not to compare Swisher to him talentwise because Manny's a hall of famer but why is it that Manny laughs at pressure while guys like Arod grip the bat so tight in October, sawdust comes off it?
I remember Tim Lollar of the Padres once had a top decker hit off him at The Murph. He stood on the mound laughing and attempting humorous gestures at how badly he strained his neck trying to turn quickly enough to see the ball clear the fence. Jerry Coleman (Padres announcer and former Yankee) commented, "That boy has a lot of growing up to do."

Lollar just didn't take the game seriously enough. He was 16-9 that year. It was his only winning season. After four losing seasons he was out of baseball. The kid had talent.
