Long-time reader and first-time poster here. My son was invited to a workout with an MLB team in advance of the draft. In the waiver of liability form, there is a provision that says that this MLB team owns the rights to my son's NIL in perpetuity. Is this new? Has anyone else encountered this situation? If so, did your player sign the form?

We did not sign anything like that. If you have an advisor (or are even talking to some) that would be a good question to ask them. I assume the intention is that the team owns any pix or video coming from the work outs but it definitely worth your due diligence!
Thanks for the advice! NIL is certainly an issue everywhere now.
I would not sign away NIL to anyone. Company tried to get son to sign a NIL for an event and when I read small print it said and any future events, not just their events.
PitchingFan is 100% correct. Do not sign anything like that. You are better off not going to the workout!
Turns out that they forgot to collect the waivers, so the lineouts didn't matter. It is worth reading them for sure!
