This year three teams from NJCAA Region IV (Northern IL roughly north of I-80) are present at their respective World Series events. I'm not sure if this is a first or not, but I would imagine it is a bit unusual!

South Suburban College will represent Region IV in the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, CO. SSC opens on Saturday at 3:00 PM against Potomac State from West Virginia. For more information here is a link to the NJCAA Division I World Series website.

Elgin Community College will represent Region IV in the NJCAA Division II World Series in Millington, TN. ECC opens on Saturday at 9:00 AM against Mesa (AZ). This is the third straight year ECC has qualified for the tournament. For more information here is a link to the NJCAA Division II World Series website.

Joliet Junior College is currently representing Region IV in the NJCAA Division III World Series in Glen Falls, NY. JJC has won 3 games while losing 1 in the double elimination tournament and will play Gloucester (NJ) tonight at 7:00 PM for second place. For more information here is a link to the NJCAA Division III World Series website.

I believe to have three teams from Region IV in their respective divisional championship tournaments, says alot about the quality of JUCO baseball in Northern IL. Over the past three years I've become an avid fan of JUCO baseball here in norhtern IL and wish the teams in Region IV continued success. Good luck to South Suburban College, Elgin Community College and Joliet Junior College in their endeavors to win it all!

Elgin Community College defeated Mesa, 6-4, in 10 innings this morning in Millington.

ECC plays LSU-Eunice tomorrow (Sunday) at 3 PM. The last time these two teams faced in the 2004 NJCAA DII World Series, LSU-Eunice narrowly defeated ECC in an extra inning affair, eliminating ECC from competition. ECC will be looking to avenge this heartbreaking loss tomorrow at USA Baseball Stadium! Good luck to Coach Angelo, Kees and the Spartans!!!
Looks like South Suburban bit the dust two in a row at world series....trailing 5-0 after 2 innings in Sundays game...Long trip for two consecutive losses.... It always helps to have the bye in a 3 team tourney....

woodly,

I'm not sure whether your comment regarding a "3 team tourney" refers to the Region IV tournament or the District Tournament (Regions IV, XI and XXIV).

If it is refers to the Region IV tournament, unfortunately Kishwaukee, Triton and South Suburban constitute the three DI programs in Region IV. Although SSC may have had a bye, in the double elimination tournament they defeated Kishwaukee, 7-0, and then beat Triton twice, 10-0 and 2-1. With just three teams in Regon IV, someone has to have the bye and SSC's head to head and Region IV record was used as the deciding factor, which seems logical to me.

If your comment refers to the District Tournament, I'm not sure what is used as the basis for determining the team with the bye. However, I am sure that it is a basis on which all teams have agreed. The double elimination tourny featured John A. Logan, Iowa Western and SSC. SSC defeated JAL twice, 8-5 & 3-2 (14 innings), to claim the District championship and advance to the National tournament.

I'm sure it had to be disappointing for SSC to lose their first two games and be eliminated but I also believe it is better to have had the opportunity to play in the NJCAA DI World Series than not going at all....

South Suburban did not have a bye in the district tournament with John Logan and Iowa Western. Each team played the other two once with the two top teams advancing to play for the right to go to Grand Junction.

John Logan beat South Suburban twice early in the year, but couldn't beat them in the two games that mattered most.

Congradulation to Dean Anna and Bob Craven, two south suburban Chicago kids playing at Logan. It looks like they both had fine years.

Chicago is long way from Mulkeytown.
South Suburban DID HAVE THE BYE in the District Finals held at South Suburban.....EACH YEAR THE TOURNEY ROTATES FROM IOWA, NORTH ILLINOIS AND SO ILLINOIS and the host team gets the first round bye...
Unfortunately each host team every year gets to sit the first game; play the loser of the first game of tourney....Benefit???
If host team wins 2nd game as South Suburban did after losing a 5 inning game to Iowa; they automatically advance to Championship...
South Suburbans initial game with Iowa meant absolutely nothing....They only had to win their 2nd game....which they did... It is an advantage to host due to PITCHING...South Suburban threw their #3 in the first contest, followed with #1 in second game, and sat while the other two team played early to face them in championship..
Like I said; taking nothing away from South Suburbans accomplishment of going to the world series/////but THE JUCO RULES need to be changed.. There are only 3 division 1 teams in the Northern Part of Illinois- there are 9 in Southern Illinois- there are 4 in Iowa...
get them all together and play it off and find a good representative for Illinois-Iowa to advance to World Series...
