When the coach sends a NLI in November, exactly what will it contain?
Will we receive scholarship documentation as well as the actual NLI? We have a fax with the scholarship details outlined. Its signed by the coach, but no official documents were exchanged. I assume the binding NLI will be tied into the scholarship offer and we will be signing an agreement for both?

Congrats to your son and best of luck to you all. Your package will likely contain a FEDEX return envelope and an official form detailing his offer, to be executed, of course, and returned. They usually like you to fax it as well, just not before that day. Like anything else, keep a copy, if one is not provided.

The fun begins. Go 'Backs! Smile

If you haven't already, you'll likely soon receive a package with instructions from the school. The NLI itself specifically states, "Do not sign prior to 7 a.m. (applicable dates listed, 9 Nov in this case) or after the final signing date". The NLI also stipulates that you have received a written offer of financial aid (usually included in the same package) from the school. So yes, the NLI is tied to the offer. It's a good 4-6 pages of verbage, so they often send advance copies for you to digest. Then they expect you to sign (when the clock strikes!) and immediately send back FEDEX or something because there's a lot of processing that remains on their end. Not quite as bad as closing on a real estate deal, but nearly as daunting, from a 17-yr-old's viewpoint at least.
Yes, you will need to apply along with signing the letter of intent. Everyone is different so ask the recruiting coach about their application process. Some schools will handle their athletic apps through a different channel than the general application process. And yes to the financial aid. The scholarship should be spelled out in detail with dollar amounts. Also included with be the terms in which they can pull a scholarship so be sure your son reads this part carefully! Wink Most coaches want a faxed copy right away with the original being express-mailed back to them.

After NLI was signed son did not get app (which was stamped baseball) until december. Final acceptance came in March. Don't worry the baseball office will see that eveything goes smoothly. Remember the NLI is only the offer you are accepting from the school. The financial package will come later on in dollars and cents, giving you an idea of what they pay and what you will pay.
I was some what uncomfortable with this process but was assured that all was ok.
I am assuming that each recruit has to be ok'd by the Athletic and Academic department before the NLI is sent out.

And don't wait for the NLI to come every year after (like I did)...lol biglaugh
