Ok correct me if I'm wrong but there have been a few BBCOR bats to be de-certified so they can't be used in a game.

Also, umpires are no longer to check bats / helmets before the game to make sure they are legal - is this correct also?

Reason I'm posting - tonight we played a team who we were wondering if they were using a de-certified bat but we weren't sure overall so we kept quiet since we were winning easily.

1. If we were more sure the bat was illegal then will the ump know if it's de-certified or not since they don't check before the game?

2. What's the penalty for using an illegal bat?

3. Is there a list anywhere that shows which bats are now illegal?

1. If he's worth his salt, he will. It's a lot simpler this year. If you think it's illegal, mention it to him.

2. Batter is out on all offenses. HC is restricted to dugout on first offense, ejected on subsequent ones.

3. NFHS central hub on Arbiter, but as of now, only two are decertified. You stay up to speed here, we'll let you know, since I doubt you have a membership to to Central Hub. Your state association might have a list available, as well.

Thanks guys - appreciate the answers and list. I thought it was like 4 or 5 bats that were de-certified but it's good to know for a fact what they are.

What exactly makes them de-certified?

Just to make sure I understand correctly if a guy is using a Marucci CAT5 32 or 34 inch bat then it's legal - is this correct?

At some point after approval, the bats were tested and found not to be in compliance. Dunno why, but the powers that be have said so.

Before the season, we purchased three BBCOR team bats, all the Marucci CAT-5, of course! We bought one in each length: 31-inch, 32-inch, and 33-inch.

The problem is that all three bats look alike from a distance. After the 33-inch model was decertified, for a while we made it a point to specifically ask the umpires BEFORE the game about our bats. This way we could avoid any confusion later, and we wanted to make sure they (and the opponent) knew we were using only the legal models. We no longer do so, and have not had any problems.

yawetag hit it on the head ONLY those two bats are illegal......so far!

The NFHS tests the bats to make sure they are safe.
It has to do with the velocity and way the balls come off the bat.

This has been done to protect Pitchers from injury. Safety is the committees first concern.

Even though BBCOR is the brand the committee has approved their are still production models that are flawed. AFter testing them they make the decisions. Umpire Leagues should get updates on which bats are banned and keep a list but not all umps follow up on this.
