Batter has 3-2 (full count), pitcher delivered pitch, it is inside. Batter intentionally moves his elbow so he gets hit by the ball. Dead ball.....pitch was a ball.....batter is awarded first base. Coach wanted a "do-over". Rule 8-1-1 d(1) states: it is a strike or ball depending on the location of the pitch.

Was this the right call?

Hm, interesting! I don't get that from the rule, but I bow to superior knowledge.

Interesting that the batter is rewarded, essentially, for violating a rule. I know that absent the contact he would be going to First anyway, but it would be fitting for him to forfeit the walk as punishment for allowing the pitch to strike him..... oh well.
