Hello,

My 2013 was personally invited to a D3 camp at a college for which he really likes this fall. He got a lot of attention throughout the camp, was moved around to several spots and it appeared to get more one-on-one attention than every other boy at the camp. At the end of the camp, he got pulled aside and told by the coach, "I will be folloiwng up next week."

It has been a two and a half weeks and no word. Does anyone have experience with this type scenario and any suggestions on how best to manage.

In the meantime, 2013 continues to respond and reach out to coaches and school inquiries.

Definitely have your son call or email the coach to see if he has made any final decisions regarding your son's possibility to become a 2013 recruit. Glad to hear that your son is also contacting other baseball programs and coaches. This will increase his exposure and improve his chances to play baseball at the college level. Tell your son to include a skills video and a cover letter which describes your son's accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field. Also have your son explain to the prospective coach why he would be a good candidate for both the baseball and academic programs offered at that particular college or university. This is a good way to attempt to get your son's foot in the door. Good luck!

Yes, this happens. It could be because the coach hasn't gotten his act together yet, or he has someone else ahead of your son on his list. Obviously there's no way to know without your son contacting the coach.

Sometimes hot leads go cold. If you read the thread regarding when to panic, you will see that theme. But what also happens is a coach your son has never spoken to may appear on the radar.

Maddening.

Good luck!
My son was at a D3 camp about 4 weeks ago. The coaches told the players that they would contact them and let them know where they stand. My son didnt hear anything at sort of gave up on them. But last night the coach called and left a msg.

Another D3 told my son that if he has not commited anywhere by late January it would be a good time for an overnight since they start up practices again. They have been in steady contact since late summer.

Since alot of D3 players will not commit until they find out what each school will cost, I get the impression that the D3 coaches ar not in a rush at this point.
IMHO the opposite is true. There is a big rush at the D3 schools to sign their top kids to an ED commitment. Most of those are due November 1. The D3 guys are very hot for their top guys right now. After November 15 there is a second, colder, rush for RD recruits. That rush is colder because RD recruits are free to go anywhere once the acceptances go out in spring. NOW is the hot time in D3.

Not all D3s have Early Decision. In my region none do.

Bludevil_bk,

I agree 100% with leftyshortstop. In addition, you'll find most coaches are "calendar-challenged". Their idea of "next week" is vastly different than the rest of the world's idea of next week. I think you are doing a very smart thing by continuing your search. Good luck.

Thanks very much for the insight. I have run through nearly all these scenarios in my mind. Your posts are confirming and helpful.

2013 and I continue to hope for the best fit. (academics plus baseball in that order)

Kindest Regards,

Ps: for others, I appreciate all posts.
Go Duke!
