It’s the top of the 4th with the score 7-0 in the last game of the regular season. We haven’t had a runner yet and haven’t gotten even 1 ball past the IF dirt on the fly or on the ground. Our fastest player by far is up with 2 down and the count is 2-0 with the IF playing at “normal” depth against the LH batter who popped out to the F4 his 1st time up.

The pitcher throws one on the inside part of the plate and the batter takes a huge swing. He hits it off his fists and the ball heads off bouncing weakly down the 1st base line. The batter is chugging, almost catching up to the ball. The F3 moves over behind the bag and about 2’ behind it. He bends over to field the ball but it hits the bag and jumps up hitting him in the right forearm and caroming toward the F4 who is charging over to cover. Not expecting to see the ball coming at him, the ball hits him above the glove on the wrists. The batter is flying and steps on the bag long before the F4 can get control and tag the bag. I don’t even blink when I score it an IF hit, but feel terrible for the pitcher to lose a no-no on something like that. Turns out we lose 10-0 in 6 with only 1 other batter reaching base safely on a walk, and never do get a ball past the IF dirt.

The next day I go to put the stats into MaxPreps and notice in the stat leaders under “No Hitter”, that pitcher’s name is listed. When I check further, he’s been credited with a no-hitter for that game. I didn’t rant and rave, but I did enter the RHE with what I had, so now when you look at the results of the games you see 0/1/3 for our R/H/E even though for their player stats there’s no hits.
