On days when I cannot throw with anyone, what should I do instead? Any particular workouts?

You could always take a bucket of balls and throw against a fence...stand 150' away from a fence, throw 25 balls, etc.
Have you considered tubing drills? 
I think the house I grew up in as a kid is still missing a few bricks from the side wall of the house
There's really no substitute for throwing, but I would agree with roll-it-up, do some tubing drills.
Can someone explain the tubing drills? Ive heard it before but just dont exactly remember?

During HS, my brother and I would duct tape a target on the back cinder block wall of the garage and pound away at it. The "mound" was right under a mulberry tree, so all of our balls and our shoes would be stained purple. Good memories. And it worked.
