Kids junior years works very hard, loves the game, hasn't had the results so far on the field but, wants to play in college at any level Not looking to make baseball a career just wants to keep playing. Good student not great.

Plan is to keep working hard, do everything the HS offers, play in state with club team this summer. Maybe has a good senior year.

Should he contact coaches now anyway maybe blossoms senior year gets an offer or wait to see how senior year goes?

dad,
Most DIII programs are working on their recruiting for the Fall of 2010, only.
They won't really even start on current juniors until next October/November. Most find it is a waste of time and resources to do too much before then. Once players find DI is less of an option than they were hoping, which is the NLI time, the DIII programs start their efforts.
I would let your son concentrate on his junior year, having fun and getting better. Getting him some visibility during this Summer and starting contact with DIII coaches during the Summer would be my recommendation for your earliest efforts.
BbDad,

If that is your son's dream & passion, absolutely let him follow it where it takes him. RJM took the words off my keyboard, as D3 is probably where he will have the best chance to continue to play baseball. I'm not as familiar with D3 schools in AZ, but I know we have a slew of them in Virginia and New England. I would start making a list of schools he is interested in and find out where the coaches may be in showcases or camps. Things will most likely develop from there. Baseball college recruiting is a tough job, so keep your son's chin up. Request advice from this site when you need it, and best of luck.
In your opinion is it more important to have success with the club this summer were he gets more playing time or at the high school were it's likely his playing time will be limited based on this year?

I've had people tell me High school baseball isn't as big a factor because there is politics involved.
That club teams get seen by more colleges and pro scouts. This was obviously a pro club team person. Keep in mind I'm not talking about a traveling club that goes all over the country. There is only so much $ I able to invest in baseball. Just plays locally against other clubs maybe a juco team. He'll play in a tournament here and there.

The people who claim politics at high school usually have kids who are not as good as they think compared to the roster. However, coaches and scouts are at the showcases and camps. High school games typically only draw attention if there's a stud in the game. A friend's son played with Christian Walker last year, He joked there were more scouts than fans at games.

I don't think this guy meant politics as far as playing time complaints or daddys a booster type stuff.
I think it had more to do with the second thing you mentioned. If there isn't a stud that everyone wants to look at or it's a school that always puts out elite talent the scouts don't come out to HS games. They just don't have the time or resources when they can go to a camp or tournament and see several stud players at once.

I could be wrong thats why I'm asking for other points of view.

Not having talent to draw scouts has nothing to do with politics. It's just the level of talent.

Then I don't know what he meant by politics the next time I see him I'll see if he'll clarify it for me. I don't want to speak for someone else. I just figured that he played college and pros so talent probably wasn't an issue for him in high school but maybe it was.

Now I've managed to get off track.
