He is quite a guy! He was my son's road roomie when my son was a freshman in college. I enjoy reading his weekly articles in the local newspaper. If I came to a game wearing a short sleeve or sleeveless shirt he was the guy on the field yelling "suns out, guns out! He did very well in college and hopefully stays healthy and continues to do well as a pro. Then there's always that writing thing to fall back on.
Dirk is such a talented writer ... setting aside his humor, he writes almost poetically.
Is there a way to get all of his articles? Do you have to be a paid subscriber to BA (we let ours lapse)? I would like to share other articles with some of my friends.
Not sure if this has already been posted but Dirk got the call and made his debut on Saturday against the Giants - 4 innings pitched, 5 hits, 3 runs all earned, no decision...
Congratulations to a very talented young writer (and baseball player!!!)
Bush takes the place of BA diarist Dirk Hayhurst on the 40-man roster. Hayhurst, like Bush, pitched in the Padres farm system previously, and Hayhurst made his major league debut last year with San Diego.
I'm no Bush basher, but I saw where he got into trouble again recently. Surely the Jays are taking a considerable risk.
Ya' gotta love Dirk and root for him to make it back on the 40.
With the all too sad notice that some of our favorite son's milb days may be ending, here is a telling blog from Baseball Americas prospect diaries. Watch And Worry
