I am sophomore at Nashua High North and play Varsity baseball. I am very interested in schools in North Carolina. I was wondering if anyone knew what the Super Skills Showcase Camp at UNC baseball was all about. My GPA is 4.5, so I believe I could go there. Also, I am going to Ft. Myers, Florida this October with Team Connecticut in the WWBA underclass championship. Is this trip a benefit. What scouts would be there?

Welcome to the HSBBWeb, BZap...and a huge congrats on your 4.5 GPA!!

Like most summer camps at major college programs, the UNC Super Skills Showcase Camp is intended to attract advanced, high school players to work with the host program's coaches and players. They'll be aided by a few small college and area high school coaches; but, you shouldn't expect other major college coaches or scouts to attend. As a result, it's particularly well suited to the player who's interested in UNC as a potential school and baseball program.

If showcasing your talents in front of a variety of schools' coaches is your intent, I'd recommend participation in one of the several showcase events held in North Carolina each summer. Examples would include those put on by Perfect Game, Impact Baseball, and Blue-Grey.

While showcase events will display your skills, they won't instruct you like a more conventional college camp will (i.e. UNC's camp). An interesting hybrid in nearby Virginia is the Best of Virginia event, which combines instruction and showcasing.

Best of luck to you!

Welcome to HSBBWeb. Prepster has it pretty much dead on. If you're looking for more centralized one-on-one instruction, than in-state/college camps are very likely the best possible choice for you. However, I am a sophomore in high school myself and you mentioned the WWBA Und.-Champs. in FLA this October. That event is very good for pure exposure. If you go and perform well, it is nearly guaranteed that you will be noticed. However, acting as the devil's advocate, if you don't play well, you will get plowed down by the better players at the showcase(s). Any other questions please let me know, and I will definitely be seeing you over the summer season (I play for the Westchester Wolfpack).
