If you lived in Dallas, you didn't see it because CBS seemed to think it was more important to show a close but not in doubt Baylor win instead of letting us see the #1 seed in the tournament get upset.

Serious Bracket Buster! The guard for Northern Iowa that shot the three (instead of running some time off!) has Ice in his veins! I guess that's why they call it March Madness!

All the games are on cbssports.com. Have a game on tv, a second game on your laptop and switch to whatever game you want when you want it.

Thanks, but I do realize that. My point was more about CBS not having very good judgement.

And that is why they play the games. The best team doesn't always win, and Northen Iowa certainly earned this victory that'll be a high point in the athletic history of their school.

Too bad their future history will not include baseball...

You would not believe how big of a deal this is in the state of Iowa! I was at a local USHL (hockey) game and that's all anyone could talk about! I saw people spilling out into the streets in town after the game ended. This really is March Madness!!!

This team has been tough all year long, a friend told me about this team back in Dec. They had 4 losses all year and never got ranked in the AP poll and was ranked 24th in the Coaches poll.
The sad thing is that there were several good teams left out, and several weak teams from the Big East a weak conference, that should not have received an invite. But it is the same story every year. Hopefully they will increase the # of teams to 96.

If you think weak teams are in now what do you think it will be like if they go to 96 teams---64 is fine and this weekend proved it

I believe NCSU is the lowest seed to win the tournament. I think they were an eight seed. Adding thirty-two more teams isn't going to provide more teams an opportunity to win the tournament. They want in to get a piece of the financial pie.

I have to believe the Kansas player were in the locker room saying things that started with, " I can't believe ....."

How come no one is talking about Cornell? An Ivy making it to the Sweet 16! And scored 82 points a game!

Adding more teams won't provide more teams with a chance to win the tournament.

Adding more teams would definitely add even more excitement to the tournament, and if done right, would strengthen it. By adding in the teams that deserved to go over those, from the big conferences.

They should allow teams that won the regular season championships to be auto qualifiers.

In away all of the conference tournaments are feed ins to the NCAA tourney.

But how about the shot with 40 seconds to go, looked like it was a 3 on two fast break, and they have the lead and the kid pulls up to shoot a 3 point shot.

I bet the coach's heart stopped while he was screaming NOOOOOOOO!!!! and then he drains it. He also had a guy breaking to the basket wide open.

I've coached players who have made this kind of decision. You yell, "No, Noooo, what are you thin ..... great shot!" Then you turn to your assistant and say under your breath, "J.C."

Most of the time you turn to your assistant and say, "What the hell was he thinking pulling up?"

Like the young man said "I was open"

Hats off to the Northern Iowas and Cornells of the world! NOI beat Kansas fair and square. Earlier in the year Cornell took Kansas to the wire in a very exciting game.

Cornell gets a shot at a young Kentucky team in Syracuse, NY. I like Cornell's chances. Go Big Red! This is what March Madness is all about.

I know Kansas losing killed my bracket. Oh well hope someone enjoys the $5 donations I'm giving them.

How crazy is this - college football the fans are begging for a playoff half as good as what basketball has. But college basketball fans are begging (at least most of them) not to expand their tournament.

Gapfinder with all due respect if they expand the field it will not add any more drama and most of the early round games will not be watched. Those games will be like the games you see on ESPN after midnight when it's the middle of the pack secondary conferences. Plus the Big East is not a weak conference. Granted they had a few teams absolutely choke it up this weekend - Georgetown and Villanova most notably - overall the Big East is one of the top 3 conferences in the nation.

I want to know where the NCAA is at saying "those kids are missing too much class!" That is one major reason the NCAA has given for not having a playoff system in football--those players would miss too much class (over winter break). Meanwhile, basketball has not one, NOT TWO, but Three post-season tournaments!

So what if Northern Iowa starts to win consistently at this level? Could it mean enough revenue to re-establish a baseball program?

Here are a couple of comments on this thread-

First, as far as the expansion on the NCAA BB tourney, it's not a question of if but when and how. Too much money to be made for the NCAA and CBS. A thought that I had was expanding it to 96 (yes- 96 teams). The top 32 seeded teams, by automatic bid, RPI, etc..) get 1st round byes. Then with the second round you have 64 like we do now...It's basically the same formula that the NCAA does with it's football playoffs in Division 2.

Second, I'm very happy for Northern Iowa and hope that they do well the rest of the way. But with the raise that they just gave their basketball coach they could've funded their baseball program in perpetually. He's just going to quit for a higher profile program (they all do) anyway. It can't cost that much to fund a team and 12 scholarships...

Cornell has been a great story. About against Kentucky ..... uh uh. While I think Calipari is as slick as a greased pig and can't root for him, I have Kentucky winning it all. I guess if I have to stomach him winning the pool is worth $500.

RJM - Totally disagree with you about Calipari. I understand what his image is with many, but I would defend that till I was BLUE in the face. And it has nothing to with winning/losing.

Regardless.... there was a poll (on ESPN I believe) who wanted KY to win vs Cornell. The only two states in the nation that picked KY was KY and Arkansas. LOL Bracket or no bracket... we're not the pick by most.
