It was cold Friday night when they played.

Westfield is a pretty solid team and I'm sure there will be folks talking as the year goes on Swampboy...Our guys generally play them (scrimmage or game) every year...in this year's scrimmage, we were up early but they came back and won late...

I'm guessing most games will be rained out tonight...I've heard several being rescheduled for tomorrow...

NICE game by your son the other night!!! You had lots of folks around, sorry I didn't get over to say good bye...we also had a minor "crisis" caused by my other son that we had to deal with...

Simko and Beal duel to a 1-1 game into the 6th. In the SoCo 6th, Bondurant and Perez go back to back, Egbert a 3-run shot later in the inning to put it out of reach. Rector also went yard for SoCo earlier.

Simko pitched very well for WS and deserved a better fate. This observer thinks he was left in about 4 batters too long. Beal wins without his best stuff (4 hits 6Ks 5BB 2HBP on about 100 pitches). Bondurant and Rector each had 3 hits.

Does Simko have college baseball plans for next year?

From what I've seen of Simko, he would be an asset to many college teams. A confident, smart, and effective pitcher on the mound. Plus, he has a wicked pickoff move.

Simko is uncertain at this time. He turned down a D1 that was not his fit. He has several schools interested but is looking for the right fit.

Oakton comes from behind for the second night in a row and beats Chantilly 13 -8. Last night they beat Herndon 12 - 6.

Hayfield beat Yorktown 5-2 to stay undefeated and take sole possession of 1st place in the national. Hayfield got all 5 in the 3rd, 3 were unearned. The teams combined for only 11 hits but 22 Ks, Hayfield's hitters had 6 hits, 12 Ks.

Great game, very well played by both teams. I got there after W-L got 4 runs and then they were shut down cold by Hayfield. Hayfield put many batters on base in subsequent innings but superior defense and things just never quite coming together kept W-L on top. I don't recall seeing a single error but I saw many, many great plays by both teams.

Oakton 8 Centreville 7. Oakton overcomes some baserunning errors and field errors to edge Centreville on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 7th.

Hayfield 26 - Falls Church 0 last night...36-0 and 18-0 earlier this year...abit rediculous IMHO...

I'm sorry if I missed it earlier, but why was the old "slaughter rule" changed (seems ill conceived to me)? There is no way to defend a 26 - 0 high school game unless the region that implemented it wants to inflate batting averages .

I'm not aware of any change in the rule. The game has to go 5 innings (4 1/2 if home team leads). You can score a lot of runs in 4-5 AB's sometimes.

Now, if someone is stealing, playing their starters and still throwing their ace in that game, that's a different issue.

I would think that by beating Falls Church 18-0 in their first meeting (or beating) and 36-0 in the second, there should be no reason that a starter plays in the 3rd game...but that's just me.

By reading the game reviews from Hayfield's website, it would appear that starters played significant time, if not the entire game, in all three games. Here's the link for anyone interested. I don't want to post the writeups, because of the player's names. I don't blame the players one bit. Coach tells you to hit, go hit it.

Varsity Baseball(8-1) hammers Falls Church 26-0 in 5 inning matinee. Bryan DiRosario continues to swing a hot bat, hitting 2 more home runs. Josh Eldridge also homered, his 4th, while leading the team with 4 hits and 5 RBI's. In all, 14 Hawks collected hits on the afternoon.

Varsity Baseball(7-1) drops first game of season, 4-1 to W-L. Justin Drechsel struck out 9 and threw 6 shutout innings in his first extended work this year, only allowing runs in the 2nd. Josh Eldridge led the team with a pair of hits. The opponents made plays and made the most of their opportunities as the home team saw the breaks go against them time and time again.



Offensive highlight when they play a good National district team seems to be Eldridge with a pair of hits.....

Can you imagine what their stats look like...

Umm...playing a team three times in a season and beating them by a combined score of 80-0 (That is EIGHTY runs to ZERO !! ) will have a way of inflating your stats.

The rule is still in effect...clearly a team can score more, or much more in this case, than 10 runs PRIOR the the 4 1/2 inning minimum...

You bet...I don't know the coach, but I know a bunch of the players from both teams (again, I don't put any blame on the kids)...and if the athletic director didn't DIRECT him to back off after the 6 touchdown performance in the previous game, neither belongs in high school sports...

The 10 run rule did not come into play in this game. There have been some other games up here that could have been stopped if the run rule still applied.

Dan Jarrell frustrates SC giving up only two infield hits and two HRs in 6 innings. Bondurant had a solo shot in the first to put SC up 1-0. WP took the lead 2-1 in the 2nd on a 2-run double by Cormac McPherson scoring Trenchard and King. WP held that lead with solid defense until the 6th. In the top of the 6th WP had bases loaded with one out, but could not bring a run in. With two outs in the bottom of the 6th and Carrington on 2B, Mike Perez belts a two-run HR to win it for South County.

Thanks. So did the Northern Region change the slaughter rule from 10 to 15 this year or has it always been 15? Do you know who is (are) the Northern Region high school sports decision makers? Sorry for peppering you with questions.

Not sure. The 15 run rule piece was in the paper. I have looked on VHSL and they only mention a 10 run rule there for baseball, although they do mention that the districts can suspend that during tournament play. Looks like they could have had a 30 run rule and it still wouldn't have helped...
