Northern Region teams

I wasn't clear in what I was saying. Hitters 1-5 in the lineup had only 1 hit. Just trying to make the point about pitching.

Mount Vernon lost to Yorktown 1-0 in 10 innings. Kyle Talouse pitched all 10 for Yorktown and was a mule! Looks like Yorktown once again locked up the district title with the win. MV is one game behind. Murdock and Carpenter pitched for MV, Murdock went 6 scoreless and Carpenter went 3 2/3 giving up the games only run. MVs right fielder missed played back to back pop ups in the 10th which led to Y'town having the chance to win the game.

Wow, threw all 10?? Last time I heard of that was Jack Morris for the Twins in game 7 of the '91 World Series. ...That kid's pitch count must have been obscene.

Cue the 50 posts about how the pitch count clearly was too high for a high school player.

The kid is a senior fighting for a district title, let him go get the game for his team.

SC pounds TC 18-3 Digby hits 2 more homers and 5 rbis...That's 7 dingers and 35 rbis in 17 games. Kyle Sanders goes 4-4 with 2 walks and 5 runs scored. Brennan Miller goes 4 for the win, his 5th...WS on tuesday @ home, meaningless game in the standings but......

WS clinches the regular season title and a spot in the district semis with an 11-0 blanking of Hayfield.

Sounds like a fabulous game. I am surprised Mt Vernon did not generate some offense. They are stacked with seniors at the top (1-4), and Quigley can change a game with any swing. Too bad for the Majors' RF--I am sure he feels terrible.

O-P must be very good. What names are shining for them? White? Walker? Weatherholtz? Heckman?

O-P is definitely good this year, but they're in the NW Region not the NR. Of the names you've pointed out, definitely Walker, Weatherholtz and Heckman are doing well, as is Sam Fox. That's a BIG team...given their recent experience against Osbourn, I'd expect O-P to come out of the CR district and perhaps go far in the NW Region as well.

But that's a topic for another thread, not this one...

MV had chances. Failed on back to back bunt attempts one was dropped by the pitcher and cather and the other the 1st baseman and the runner collided and the runner was called out. Also, MV had a baserunner called out at second for sliding too hard, went through the bag and made contact with the SS on the back side of the bag (1 out runners on 1st and second) turned into an inning ending double play. Also with runners on first and 3rd with two outs mv executes a steal of second only to have the runner over slide the base and get tagged. Poor execution and opportunistic D from y'town. It will be an interesting match up if both teams make it to the district championship game. Kyle is also a premier pitcher in the league, he has some nasty off speed pitches that make his fastball look extremely hard. He is probably throwing in the mid 80s.

After the dust (or mud) has settled, the Concorde District tourney seedings are almost set:

1. & 2. Westfield and Chantilly, depending on winner of makeup between these two on Monday nite -- if Westfield wins, they're #1 and Chantilly #2; if Chantilly wins, #1 is determined by coin-toss because all the tie-breakers leave them tied.

3. Robinson
4. Centreville
5. Oakton
6. Herndon
7. Fairfax

Herndon and Fairfax square off in a play-in game on Monday, with the winner playing at Robinson on Wednesday; winner of that game is at #2 on Thursday. Centreville and Oakton play at C'ville on Wednesday; Ashooh for C'ville vs. Henne for Oakton, so should be a good one, and winner is at #1 on Thursday.

Top four get a bid to NR tourney, with Westfield and Chantilly in already; so in the Wednesday nite games, they're all playing to not only win that game, but to go to regionals.

Good luck to all the Concorde teams, and let's all hope for no more rain next week...

Sounds to me like West Springfield had enough team chemistry to go undefeated in their district and to beat South County both times; and I bet the WS family has plenty to cheer about because of both of those things. Kent may have gotten "smacked around", but in the end he and his team won the game; that's all that matters.

Having seen both of these teams play this year, there's no doubt who the class of the district, and perhaps of the NR, is -- West Springfield (although in the NR, I think Westfield, Chantilly, McLean and maybe Lake Braddock would dispute that).

Good luck to all the NR teams as they head into their district tourneys next week.

All the personal insults and perceived bitterness aside, the fact is both WS and SC are very good teams and there is not much separating them, and I include Lake Braddock in that.

That said, give WS their props for going undefeated in the Patriot. The games vs. SC and LB (and the 1st Annandale game) were very competitive and fun to watch, and each of those teams had their opportunities to knock WS off. But championship-caliber teams win the close games and find ways to win when they are not firing on all cylinders. WS has been in the crosshairs of every opponent since the preseason rankings came out and they have responded to each team's best effort.

Patriotballer, as you know, the postseason is an entirely different animal and your SC boys will get another opportunity. Until then, I think we are better served without your sour grapes.

How did South County and Digby do Friday night against Hayfield and their sophomores. I heard they got all they could handle and without the 3 error inning, Hayfield wins. SC-4 Hayfield-3

Is there a good website that tracks the Virginia HS baseball tournament? In short, I'd like to be able to see, on a daily basis, all games in the Northern Region (say, I want to see Mt V play Yorktown then go see WS play LB). Any such site? If not, can someone post schedules for the tournament?

Centreville is at Oakton Wednesday 6:30 determined by a coin flip.

Friday's games are at Westfield
Final is Monday at Chantilly

My understanding is that Renner didn't play in WS's game vs. SoCo last Saturday, so he should be eligible for their district semi game this week having served his one-game suspension.

Guess he's good to go for the tourney.

Semis are Friday at Westfield: Centreville vs. Westfield at 4:30pm, and Robinson vs. Chantilly at 7:30pm. Finals at Chantilly on Monday.

These four remaining teams in the Concorde qualify for the Northern Region tourney.

TC over West Potomac 10-5 in Patriot District second round game. (WP beat Lee in first round game).

In Liberty District Woodson over Madison 11-5. Couldn't get the last two outs in bottom of 7th due to lightening - so they called the game. Marshal over Langley 3-2. That's all I heard.

Liberty District Championship scheduled for 6:30 Monday, May 18th @ Madison.

These 4 teams enter Regional Tournament starting on Friday, May 22nd @ 7 pm (fields tbd) versus Concord teams - not sure who plays whom...

Concorde plays Liberty; that's all we know at this point. We won't know the actual pairings (i.e., "who plays whom") until after the district tourneys are over. All we know at this point is the eight teams from these two districts that are in the NR tourney.

Concorde District semifinals tonight:

Westfield 3, Centreville 0: sophomore Aaron Hoover pitches a perfect game for Westfield!!

Robinson 5, Chantilly 2 (in 8): junior Austin Freer goes the distance for Robinson, scattering 5 hits over 8 innings. Sophomore Jared Velasquez gets the game-winning hit for the Rams in the top of the 8th with a 2-run single to break a 1-1 tie.

Robinson (3) vs. Westfield (1) for the Concorde District title, Monday night at Chantilly at 6:30pm.

Patriot semis:

South County 3 Lake Braddock 2: I believe this is South County's first ever victory over Lake Braddock, either regular season or postseason.

West Springfield 15, TC Williams 0: WS posts a 9 spot in the 1st and cruise to the victory.

I'm not positive but I think South County beat Lake Braddock in 2006 to win the Patriot District tournament.

you are correct golfball..2nd win. LB definitely hit the ball better as a whole, but SC made some tremendous catches in the outfield and took away at least 4 extra base hits. LB was off for 2 weeks but still, it shows that SC can beat the better teams. South County's pitching and defense should get more credit than they do. SC & WS on the 18th, 3rd time a charm...again

So...South County beat Lake Braddock. That seems to be the only "better team" they have beaten. If they can beat West Springfield, then they may have a legitimate shot at doing something in the regional tournament. But according to my calculations, no one in the Northern Region has beaten either Wahl or Kent. Until they do....

And the laughable statement on a different board that Chantilly had by far the best one-two pitching in the region.

One last comment. Anyone thinking that LB is done for the Regionals is sadly mistaken. They have the best coach in the region and will be a factor somewhere along the line.
