He is also a difficult coach to play for in as much as he has embarassed players, on the field during a game, shown disrespect for the game, umpires and teams by being late out of the dugout between innings when he is to take-up his position at third base. You make a mistake and you are pulled from the game, and on ocassion, during the half inning.

He is a hard coach to play for who has his favorites. Expect to play the 'bench position' unless you are one of the "chosen ones"!!!!!

My opinion of him after watching at least a dozen games. Sorry, but that's what I saw!!!!!!
reg,

i can tell you that i have seen norwood play too. rich does expect 100% from his players. some don't like it and leave and some stay. every coach playing this level of play expects a lot from his players. i guess the question you need to ask is, i will play top quality teams and get exposure at the same time. there are many programs out there to look at. you need to choose the one that is right for you.
This is exactly why you need to see a coach coach in order to get a feel for whether you want to play for them or not. I'm a yeller and a screamer. Many don't like it. I'm also a lets have a hug and you did well. Many don't see that side. I'd bet the majority of kids appreciate the mix. Naturally, some won't and I wouldn't be a good coach for them. JMHO!
Reggies1970,

My son has played for Norwood and Rich. Yes, he can be rather intense at times, what coach is not, at times. Have players left because of this, yes. Have players stayed, yes. Have I seen a player be removed during an inning, yes, but that was because he came out not prepared to play, thus letting down the coach and most of all his teammates. Basically, just gave up because things were not, at the time, going his way. As others on this topic have stated, the best way is to hear it from the players themselves. Hopefully, you have received this information via this site or better yet, in a PM. Good luck…

I totally agree, and also with 'breaker' and 'smokeyboy'! I know most coaches can and have had those moments of having to gain the attention of their players, if you understand what I'm saying. But, I don't believe in mass punishment either. Yes, pull the player out of the game during the half inning (pitchers aren't included in this scenario), not while the inning is in progress because he mishandled a ball or two.

As far as the program is concerned, you want to be playing and not be sitting on the bench. There are many fine travel teams and clubs that will gain you exposure, some more than others because of where they travel to, but you will gain exposure and experience with any good team.

Work hard and stay focused. That's what will get the attention of coaches and scouts. Having some ability will help as well. Big Grin
