I played for Coach Pildes and the Norwood Blues last year. Juniors and Seniors in high school are generally the age group, as the NABF is an 18U organization. However, I do believe that some "exceptional" sophomores could possibly get the chance to play for the Blues. There are no formal tryouts - Coach Pildes "recruits" the best players in the Chicagoland area to come and play for the Blues.
Hope that helps - I'm sure Sonen could give you some more specifics.
Best thing about Norwood is that it is probably the furthest thing from "daddy-ball" here in the area. If you are playing well, you'll play. If not, you'll sit. Pildes also LOVES the matchup between righty-left/lefty-righty. Probably the best baseball I could've played last summer, and a great opportunity for get ready for my first college fall season. If given the chance to play for Norwood, I would definitely take advantage... but also know that a lot A LOT of travel is involved. I put over a 1,000 miles on my car last summer alone. All in all, a great team run by a real stand-up coach.
