I want to share this story as an encouragement for those who may be in a similar situation. My son is a multi-sport athlete who always leaned toward baseball (usually played it year-round and just played the other sports in season). Unfortunately, in high school he had a series of injuries that sidelined him and even had to have a few surgeries. He pretty much missed his entire junior year of baseball, including the two summers surrounding it. By the time he was able to play sports again, as a senior, it was football season. He knew he'd have difficulty recruiting in baseball, and due to a successful football season he entertained the idea of playing football in college (NAIA and D3 offers, and even D1 walk-on offers). He decided to take the D1 walk-on and concentrate on football. He almost did not even play senior year baseball, but the coach needed him and he played. This may be one of those decisions that sets the course for the remainder of his life.

Son had a great baseball season and his love for the sport re-emerged in full force. He knew he'd rather play baseball in college (if possible) than football, but he also knew that he was not even on the recruiting radar...he had not gone to a single showcase, he had no PG rating, he had not received a single call on July 1 before his senior year, or even any letters before that, etc.

Here's what I want to share: son will be playing at a D1 school in the fall! And it is even a D1 with a very good program and coach. In our view, only God could put this together and we are thankful that he did. Besides thanking him, we are very grateful for our son's high school coaches who made calls to get son on a summer team at the last minute and made calls to some college coaches to come watch him play. Now it is up to our son to make the most of the opportunity he's been given.
