My son always played 3rd base or 1st base during his earlier years. Now in his third year in high school his height sprang up to 6.4. His new starting position is right field he has a strong arm and his base running is very fast. He is batting 5th in the line up. My sons question to me was now he will not be noticed as much playing outfield vs playing infield. Is there a so called ratio of positions scouts look at. Do scouts look at infielders more or is every position in their sights during games.

Scatpac,
I would tell your son not to worry, there are many chances and many reasons to get noticed...

In my opinion there are just a few things to consider.....

The notion that only the best athletes play infield and the rest play outfield is a carry over from youth leagues where that was true.......(strange enough, many outfielders are among the highest paid pros)

The position your son currently plays can have very little to do with the position he will play in higher baseball.....(there are so many pro examples for this case, its hard to list...but, Mark Mc Guire went to college as a pitcher...)

much of getting noticed can be what the player does well......run, hit and throw........have him concentrate on that....

best of luck
Nothing wrong about a kid asking his dad questions on visibility. Unlike others, I wouldn't draw from that fact alone that the kid is not a team player.

Sticks always stand out. Strong arms can be shown as well from the OF as from the IF. Certainly better than from 1B. Speed on defense is more easily demonstrated in the OF.

Speed on the basepaths shows either way, of course.

Your son shouldn't worry. He is probably thinking in little league terms, which is not unusual for someone his age.

Best of luck to him.
