My 2017 catcher is looking forward to and preparing for his final season of HS baseball. He's headed to Virginia Tech this Fall and looks to try and play on a club team (he passed up an opportunity to play D3 baseball). So, he'll need to get some at least semi-meaningful game time in this summer, and semi-organized practices would be nice. In general, and specifically, what options exist for summer ball for an 18+ player? Thanks for any help you can provide, and feel free to send me a private message.

Northern VA Industrial Baseball League may be a good option. Typically includes current and former college players and some former pro players. Low key, but decent competition.
Feel free to PM me.

Thanks Shattered Maple. Any one else have any suggestions?
DM me. There are many options for post 18+ play in the NoVA area.
Batty,
There are a number of options/leagues for your 2017 catcher to keep playing this summer.
If you give me an idea of his skill level/stats I can help you get him on a team.
Obviously American Legion is an option (which is also free), but I’ve been disappointed by the level of play in that league recently. Since most talented players have moved to the travel circuit and others just don’t want to play after HS, even eligible graduated seniors haven’t been filling the void here.
There are primarily 3-4 leagues in the NoVA areas for “adult” baseball. The ones I’m going to focus on cater to a younger cliental of college and post-college aged players. There are a number of other “old man” leagues out there as well.
There are currently 4 decent adult baseball leagues running in the NoVA area. The 5th league (Blue/Grey League) folded.
DC Wood: http://www.eteamz.com/dcwoodbaseball/
Solid league – has an “upper” and “lower” level. The best “upper” teams are full of current/former college and pro players (at least at most starting positions). The middle tier “upper” teams will have a few stars and lack depth. The low “upper” teams and all “lower” teams usually have a few committed/talented players and then roster fillers who probably are older or who haven’t played in a while.
Industrial League: http://leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=iblnova
Solid league – similar to the “upper” level of the DC Wood league. The top teams in this league are younger/deeper than the top teams in DC Wood. The rest of the league is similar but typically a bit deeper than the DC Wood teams. There was talk of this league folding into the DC Wood league last season, they played “non-conference” games across leagues last year and had a joint All-Star game.
Fed Ball: http://fedball.com/
Decent league – a splinter league from the Industrial league left due to “creative differences”. The top teams are pretty good while the lower teams would struggle against the good and average DC Wood and Industrial league teams. They easily have the best website, and league management in my opinion.
MSBL: http://www.dcmsbl.com/cgi-bin/...ague?leagueID=DCMSBL
Weaker league – Has a long tradition but the competitive teams have mostly converted to other leagues. A couple of the top teams are good/decent and could compete in a series with the “upper” teams from DC Wood, Industrial, and Fedball league.
Many of the differences in theses leagues come down to game locations, cost, and management. All have permitted fields for use, few have practices (anything more than some team BP before games), and almost all teams are desperate for a good, young, committed catcher!
Thanks for the information Natman. I sent you a private message (or whatever they are called these days)...
