With that said, kudos to the player that got HBP ... no easy ABs vs. Agnos!
Actually, the game was MUCH closer than the final score through 4 innings, and Madison only had 5 hits all night. They appeared to be very conservative with the swings, taking many strikes, which is why our pitcher struck out 4 in the first 2 innings. Hayfield had several really painful errors that allowed a mess of unearned runs and did not get it done with the bats. Great night for baseball and glad the lightning and rain stayed away.
Madison also beat Yorktown 10-0 last night. Was close through 5 with Madison leading 2-0 but then exploded over the last two innings
Chantilly over Stonewall Jackson in a similar manner. It was 2-0 Chantilly until the bottom 4th when Chantilly put up 7 and added one more in the 5th to close out the 10-0 win. Chantilly 2017 pitchers Hayden Dux and Robert Sallberg combined for the 5 inning no-hitter.
Hayfield won 5-4 over McLean bottom of the 7th when McLean, who had played solid defense all evening, made back-to-back errors and had a wild pitch. Earlier, Hayfield allowed 2 runs after SS error on a routine grounder with 2 outs (the only error). In the first inning, a likely run was taken away by a blown call at 1B on a double play (next AB walk followed by a double). Will Miles pitched a complete game for Hayfield.
Chantilly over Osbourn Park 9-3 last night powered by a grand slam and 5 RBIs from Forrest Wagner and 6 strong innings and 10 Ks from Jared DiCesare. 2017 hurler Jack Fitzhugh closed it out for Chantilly in the 7th. Did not get to see 2017 Kyle Whitten throw for Osbourn Park but their SS (Justin Brown??) showed he is a threat with his bat, speed, along with a live arm to boot. He is a gamechanger in the leadoff spot.
Madison over Manatee High School 7-1 in first round of Sarasota Baseball Classic

OHS earned its 3 runs on two dingers: Ryan Davis (solo) and Joe Rizzo (2R). Tomo spot on through 6, giving up 1ER. Fell apart bot 7.
Mountain View over Chantilly 4-3 last night, pretty good game as MV had their VT commit on the mound and spotted his pitches well. Chantilly had Forrest Wagner on the mound who pitched well but some key errors by Chantilly made the difference. Chantilly plays Centreville at 3pm today at Woodbridge HS.
Chantilly over Centreville 3-2 today as a pitcher's duel broke out between Centreville's Kyle Barnes and Chantilly's Jack Fitzhugh, who was relieved by Hayden Dux. Key hits by Chantilly's Jared Enders and Cameron Boddie led to Jared DiCesare's walk-off infield single to seal the win for Chantilly.

Glad to see Jack Fitzhugh do well. His dad has worked his tail off for Chantilly LL.
OHS over Osbourne 8-4. Can't tell you what happened other than joemktgson's 4 walks and an HBP, as I'm stuck in a hotel room overlooking the ocean suffering from the rotovirus.
Madison lost their first game of the season yesterday 4-2 against an undefeated Canterbury( private school in Fort Myers) team. Canterbury was led by a Clemson commit on the mound.
Madison bounced back today though with an impressive 2-1 win over Huntsville (AL) and followed it up with a 7-1 win over Miami Palmetto.
Chantilly over Potomac 6-2 yesterday as Chantilly's Jake Pasquale pitched a complete game. A balanced offensive and defensive effort from Chantilly.
Madison lost their final tournament game today 2-1 against the defending 6A state champs from Florida (Venice High School).

Sounds like it was a pretty tight game and shows that the talent in the Commonwealth can hang with the best of them in the nation.
How about those West Springfield Spartans! 5 - 0 Mingo Bay Champions - who saw that coming?
Agreed, WS also shutdown a very talented Battlefield team.
I see a few good games coming up this week:
- McLean hosting South Lakes - SLHS is an improved squad
- South County @ Oakton - a good starting test for both
- South County @ WSHS - West Springfield coming off a strong Spring Break tourney
- Oakton @ Madison - Always a big crowd
Who else?
West Springfield is 6-0, having beaten West Potomac before heading to Myrtle Beach where they went 5-0, including wins over Northern Virginia teams Battlefield (3-0), Oakton (12-2) and Forest Park (9-4)
West Springfield now ranked #14 in top 25 PBR report. https://www.prepbaseballreport...ams/2016VADCRankings
And how about a shout out for Jacob Myers, getting it done against Battlefield. Complete game shutout.
Not much press, I'm assuming it still counts even if he does not throw 90
How about those Annandale Atoms 3-2 win over WSHS in 13 innings. Myers in relief for the last inning had it rough. Annandale may lack depth, but Colin Corey and Tucker Mack are two talented pitchers.
Good game to watch.
Madison over Oakton today 12-4. Warhawks hit throughout the lineup and Joe Rizzo hit a towering homer to right field in the top of the 6th for Oakton. He also walked twice, once intentionally.
Chantilly travels to Stone Bridge on Monday at 6pm for their last game before conference play begins.
Also, kudos to Robinson for their win today over West Springfield on the strength of Tyler Jumper on the bump!

They're very good. And when you give a good team 7 walks, 2 HBPs, and a balk, you should lose. The real good teams are the ones that pound you when you make mistakes.
The only thing that can stop Madison is a lights-out pitching performance. An excellent opposing pitcher outing won't cut it: it'll have to be something special.

Given my son's team played them to start the season and I've followed them pretty closely, I have to say that as far as walks go, part of Madison's undeniably successful approach to winning HS games seems to be to drawing as many walks as possible. In short, they burned through our best pitcher by taking pitch after pitch after pitch, often getting into a hole (which is why he struck out 4 of the first 6 batters). I wondered why they kept their best hitters on such a tight rein given they were clearly a better team than Hayfield, pretty much the entire game. And yes, they clearly could hit. They were also great at spoiling marginal pitches in a deep count to raise the pitch count steadily. Excellent team.
So yes, it would take an uncommonly "on" pitcher to do well and go the distance with Madison, getting loads of first pitch strikes or perhaps an umpire with a very loose SZ, otherwise they will raise the pitch count and knock him out. So you better have two...
A match-up against Agnos might be needed to take down Madison but we will have to see how the postseason brackets shake out to see this.

It took 130 pitches and 8 innings last year for him to be removed from the game with the score tied 1 -1. I am sure it will be in the back of his mind, if they make the playoffs again this year.
Who would have thought of such an amazing batting strategy. Disciplined batters, looking for their pitch to hit, not swinging on marginal pitches unless the have to swing, getting on base with walks. Sounds like a movie.

Yep. But makes for some boring baseball from a fan perspective, especially when they are clearly the better team. But that's just me...
The scariest part about Madison is that I do not think their talent will drop too much next year as I know some of their kids that played on the MVP Terps travel teams so that pipeline is still flowing strong.
Well Madison's JV team has something like a 66 game winning streak right now dating back to 2011. That talent just carries over into Varsity.
Stone Bridge over Chantilly tonight 6-5. Brett Kreyer overcame a shaky 1st inning that saw Chantilly jump to an early 3-0 lead. However, he settled nicely and kept Stone Bridge in the game through 5 innings where Gary Fuller took over to shut down Chantilly's offense. Forrest Wagner & Jake Pasquale both pitched well for Chantilly. Brady Ryan led Chantilly's offense going 3-for-4 with a triple, two singles and 2 RBIs. Chantilly will start conference play at Westfield on Friday at 6:30pm.
Chantilly over Westfield 9-0 last night. Jared Dicesare (2016, GMU commit) with a complete game 1-hitter. Brett Norwood (2016) led Chantilly's offense going 3-for-3 including a Grand Slam in the 2nd inning. Chantilly will play at Robinson on Tuesday at 6:30pm.
OHS over Herndon 2-1. Herndon: a very good hitting squad with strong pitching. Underrated. Watch out for them as the season continues.
