I’m surprised by this story. It wasn’t that long ago college softball was the PAC 12 and the ROY ** bus. Now several conferences are strong, have top ranked teams and win national titles. I believe the migration started when Tennessee convinced Monica Abbott, a CA native and dominant pitcher who went on to Team USA to leave the west coast. Then a Virginia team shocked the world winning 18u Gold ASA Nationals.,

In the SEC tourney in 2017, Chad Spanberger for Arkansas came to the plate with two on needing a 3 run HR to hit for the HR cycle. Auburn intentionally walked him down 10-0.

That is the biggest key.  I can't believe someone would allow another hitter to hit four HR's in one game.  As my wife says when I don't complain because our son is walked, you would be that guy but there is no way you are hitting three against me much less four.  That's why they made intentional walks.

Pitching around a hitter when you’re getting annihilated is like kicking a field goal down 34-0 late in the game just to say you didn’t get shut out.

If they had stopped pitching to her it would not have been blowout.  It was 6-2 when she hit the second.  You let one player account for 10 of the 15 runs scored.  That is bad coaching.
