I hear some great news today regarding Flower Mound Baseball. The news is that every 06 baseball player that applies, is accepted and attends an institution of higher learning this summer or fall may apply to the Baseball Booster Club for a scholarship of $500 to help fund their college expenses. That is the kind of news I like to hear the community doing. Way to go guys. More booster clubs should follow this example.

This is the first year we have been able to fund the program to this extent. There is a $1,000 scholarship provided each fall to player from the previous spring which is supported by one of our corporate sponsors. In addition to the players, the three Senior team managers were also awarded a $500 scholarship for a a total of 15. We are a relatively young program and have been trying to get our program off the ground and to his level for a few years. We were finally able to "git er done".

Our booster club has always given $500 scholarships to each Senior player (so have the basketball and football clubs). Last year our new superintendent announced we would not be able to continue this tradition. Our choice was to give 1 or 2 scholarships or to do away with them. Our club decided that each student athlete had given the same blood, sweat and tears to the program, and we would would not reward just 1 or 2. The scholaships are history. Sad.
At my son's school, the booster club gives ten $500 scholarships. There is a six page application the athlete must complete. There is a committee made up of 7-8 booster club representatives that review each application and score them. The committee then averages the scores and the top 10 applicants get the scholarship monies.

We have a simple application process and questionnaire to fill out. The highlights are that each student must be enrolled and provide proof of such before the release of funds. Secondly the student or family must be a member of the booster club.
