Hello Every one:

This is my first post.

You probably have not noticed me sitting in back listening in/reading the different discussions here for the past two years. Thank you, to all Old-timers/members for sharing your experiences so that others can benefit.

Ok now the question.

I have read here, that some Coaches have off-season workouts during the week that include long toss workouts. I have also read that baseball players should take 2 - 3 months off from throwing, even for players that have no arm injuries.

With allot of Fall seasons just ending recently, should baseball players rest their arms for 2-3 months or is it ok to start off season workouts that includes long toss right away?

Thanks,

Gapfinder,

Welcome to the HSBBW. Not sure of your son's age, or his position.

I have found there are many different theories, but as a pitcher, mine always took some time off. In college if you pitched all summer (ending august), fall you were basically shut down for a few weeks and then began tossing again. In HS he had time off as well.

Pitcher's IMO, need time off, some people will argue to keep tossing. As a milb pitcher mine has been instructed to take two full months off from any throwing and begin tossing program late december, early January.

His workouts also on hold, core, and shoulder excercises to begin in a few short weeks, with weights to follow. He has been running and stretching.

Maybe someone can help with position players and their off season.

I think a lot depends on position, how amny games played or how many innings pitched.
