2) Last name Yastremski, Clemens, Boggs, Bonds, McGuire
3) Good Grades
4) Effective communicator....speak the coaches language
5) Consider ALL opportunities not just the name brand schools
6) Have a plan and know where your talents are in demand
Even with all this, it is still not easy. It is a lot of work. Good luck.
Show tools. I have found that a lot of coaches look for guys who show tools over production. Having a high contact rate, speed, arm strength, etc. Have good grades, be a strong communicator, and show interest. Cover all your bases at each level to find the best opportunities academically and athletically.
Write e-mails to coaches telling them how you can help their program, and include video clips or a link to your recruiting site. Emphasize your academic talents, your athletic skill set and attributes (over your statistics such as batting average or won-loss record), and your leadership abilities (team captain, student govt leader, etc). Depending upon how strong you rank in these areas, set your goals accordingly/realistically with college programs that will be a good fit.
Throw money at showcases, camps and travel teams. ;o)
