Batter leads off the inning, pops up in foul territory, the 3rd basemen camps underneath then drops the ball. The next pitch he singles to center, HOW IS THIS SCORED? BLUE where are you?
Colorado, thanks for responding. I have a different perspective of it and perhaps someone can tell me where I can go to get the rule rule or the official scoring of it. My opinion is, it should be scored an error no matter what the batter does because the error prolonged his At-Bat! He would not have had a 2nd chance if not for the error. E5 all the way even if he hits the ball over the fence it would be a 4 base error and an unearned run. I need an official ruling! Although I love reading everyones opinion.
What you say makes sense. I went to the MLB web site to read the scoring rules and E5 is correct in this situation because the at-bat was prolonged, but it does not address the scoring of subsequently reaching base. You are probably correct. Thanks.
