OSU is conducting a Pitchers/Catchers camp on 1/7/18 and my son is thinking about attending and I am soliciting any feedback on past experiences/reviews?

Is this camp a real opportunity for recruits interested in their program to get a player evaluation/look by the HC/RC/Pitching coach or should we not be expecting that level of review?

Thanks in advance for your response.

You'll see the HC, RC and PC there.  Looked at your profile, your son is a 6' LHP.  What age?  Velo?   LHP's usually don't go unnoticed at these things...especially if he has velocity to project to a D1.  Ohio State hasn't done a lot of recruiting with younger kids in the past....but seems to be ramping it up a bit to keep up with everyone else.  Already seeing a lot of 2019's and even a few 2020's if I remember right.   My son have a very good friend who is a junior LHP for the Bucks.   If your son ends up going, let me know....I'll have my son tell his friend to say hello if he's there that day.  The facility at Ohio State is very nice.  It's a bit of a drive from Atlanta, especially if there is snow, but it's probably worth the trip.

It's also the day before the College Football Natonal Championship game.  You may want to plan to stay another day in case Ohio State somehow makes it to that game.  Columbus will be absolutely crazy that entire weekend if the Bucks are playing on Monday night

Yes, we live in the Atlanta area and my son is a 2019 LHP at 6’2” 180, consistent 83-85mph FB, solid command with very strong GPA/Scores and has been in the starting rotation for a very reputable 18U TT since Summer of ’17. Son has had a lot of interest from Mid Majors and a few very nice offers to date, but Power5 schools have been lukewarm so far including the ACC school here locally.  Son reached out to OSU a couple of times with email to RC, video and provided schedules of our TT and HS schedules, but not a lot of feedback other than the usual “come to a camp”.

In that case, I'd definitely consider making the trip....85 as a 2019 LHP with that size should get him noticed.  If you're willing to drive another hour and a half north, I'm sure I can get your son  a look with another D1 up here lol

Just based on your info, I would guess he projects well enough.  I would definitely suggest looking for some dialog of substance before taking on the time and expense of that trip, though.  If your son isn't getting personal response from them, he may want to ask his "very reputable" TT coach to reach out to OSU on his behalf.

Something else to consider, of course, is the time of year.  You would not want to have your son go if he isn't fully ramped back up and in shape to take the mound and perform well.
