mysson (2023) had been having conversations with a mid major coach/recruiting coordinator through the fall (got his number from a travel coach with instructions/requests to call at a certain time).   few conversations recently as the season for both the coach and my son got rolling.  it's mysson's dream school for multiple reasons.

now the HC has parted ways with the school.

what is mysson's plan of attack now?

I agree with 3and2.  Still pretty early for a 2023 and it's important to understand that the "dream school" may not be the best way to produce the dream.  In the immediate post-Covid era, I'd caution every uncommitted kid against getting their heart set on any one place.  Better to have your heart set on 20 different places or more.  With about 1200ish D1s and 2500ish total in the transfer portal, there is no shortage of broken dreams in college ball right now.

Agree with others, even pre-covid the odds your son commits to the first school he speak with is probably slim. I remember my son going pretty far down the road with the first school he started speaking with and then it not panning out. Can be difficult for a kid, and parent, have to have a pretty wide net until committed.

The dream school just gets put on hold until the new coach starts recruiting. That may end up just delaying the process, or it may end it. Too early to tell.

I do agree with others about targeting other schools. Since your son has his heart set on the one school, I'd start small. Identify 3-5 other options that he's ok with. Focus on things like location, size, budget, and majors. Talk to the travel coach about contacting those schools. If your son was already talking to a mid-major, then this summer will be important for him to get in front of college coaches.

He will probably be impacted by the tail end of the covid oversupply, but they should be gone by the time he's a sophomore. With that in mind, he may want to consider a juco.

Good luck this summer.

Keep in touch with old coach at new school.  Son ended up in UT because when Coach Vitello got the HC job, he sent him a text just saying congratulations.  He had been RC at another school and wanted son but HC at other school did not think he could pitch in SEC so that text got the ball rolling at UT.

Did old coach leave on good or bad terms?  Fired or took new job.  If he took new job he might put in a good word at old school.

Son's first serious recruitment came at a good baseball school where a friend of the family was an assistant coach. We didn't hear from that school after the assistant coach became a head coach at another school, but he made son an offer at his new school. That was the plus. The downside is that if he had taken the offer, he'd be sitting at the school with a new coach, because the former guy just took a new job. It doesn't seem like you should get too attached to much of anything about college baseball or the recruiting process.

That should be pinned at the top of every single thread in this forum!!!  Very very well said and 100% true

It’s a sad state of affairs. I just spent 3 days in Grand Junction at the JuCo World Series. Two teams were in the same hotel as me and other players were often in the stands around me. I saw every team play and I talked to a lot of players. The common theme was, “I have limited options for a place to play next year” - and I’m talking about really good players with 2 years of college playing experience. I read posts from parents that have kids that are 2022, 2023, 2024, etc. and I just wonder if they understand the reality of what they are up against.

Any Florida teams?

In today’s world your dream school needs to be the school that actually wants you - if you can find one!

In any world this is good advice. Even eight and nine years ago I watched half my son’s former travel teammates transfer from their dream school choice. The odds are even worse now.
