Yesterday I watched the Oldtimers Day events at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are the only MLB team that continues Oldtimers Day. I think it's nice to bring back the legends and former players and bring them from the dugout to the baseline so that they can hear the ovations again and the fans can see their heroes from the past.

It's playing the game itself that I disagree with.

I don't want to see the guys I grew up watching win championships struggling to bend down or run without falling down. Most importantly, when I saw 60-something-year-old Al Downing pitching in 97 degree heat and near 100 percent humidity, I thought that safety was a major issue.

I want to see the oldtimers, but don't want the game played anymore.

I agree. Call them out for the introductions and the adulation but leave the playing to the current guys.

Oddly enough, I believe I was watching one on ABC WW of Sports as a kid and I believe it was in old Washington Stadium where the Senators played. Luke Appling who I believe was in his 80's at the time got a hold of one and hit a homerun. That was pretty amazing.
