For those who did not watch the ESPN game last night, Vizquel turned a 4-6-5 double play. Eek The paper this morning says he actually called the play in advance and alerted the Giants 3B to be alert for the pivot and throw back to get the runner rounding 3rd.
Vizquel should to be a face on any lists of the best players in the game. He plays shortstop effortlessly, makes every play others make and plays most never make, and plays the game with a huge smile at all times. Boy am I glad he is in San Francisco because you watch him every game and think the game can't be played any better...and then he turns a 4-6-5 double play. He is magic to watch.

infielddad - you are singing to the choir with me. He is in fact one of my all time favorite players. When the Indians had the great teams in the mid-90's, he was the straw that stirred the drink imho. I don't think I'll ever see another player like him. I pray he makes the Hall of Fame someday. Isn't it amazing when you get to see a player play - day in and day out, how your appreciation can grow (or diminish) for that particular player.
I had the pleasure of watching Vizquel at Spring Training several years ago when he was with Cleveland...amazing doesn't begin to cover it.

I would get there real early, and watch infield practice..he would toss his glove off every day, and field grounders barehanded...then tap grounders up into the air with his foot, catch, and throw...then stick his leg out, let the ball run up his leg, off of his chest, then catch it with his throwing hand, and in the same motion throw to first. He's one of the best fielders I've seen.
About six years ago I went to a Mariners home game that went extra innings. The Mariners were down by one with runners at 2nd and 3rd with two outs. They hit a single to shallow left -- a single in any other situation except Omar (playing for Cleveland) was at short. He made a diving, snow-cone catch behind him to save the win for his team. He actually got a standing ovation from the Mariners fans.
The play last night was amazing... if you blinked you missed it....

There is no doubt in my mind that he called it before the pitch - he took the throw and zip over to third it went... almost a 6-4-3 DP in reverse...

What a treat to watch him everyday... Now I know how the cardinal fans feel about Ozzie...
