My '09 son's goal/dream is to play for a very high profile ACC school that his mother and I are alumni of. His current HS coach knows the recruiting coordinator at this school. My son, according to "those in the know", is projected to be a D1 player. That may improve as he gets stronger this year(6'0" 155 lbs). Would it be advisable to try to get his coach to arrange an on-campus introduction/interview with the recruiting coordinator at this school just to express his desire to play there, and more importantly find out what exactly they're looking for in a SS/OF who plays at that school?

You don't have to have anyone arrange anything, you can plan your own unofficial visit, this way try to meet with anyone in the coaching staff and let them know that your son is a product of two alumni (have you given towards alumni funds). Remember you have to make all calls. Try to find out when that school has their fall official scrimmage games, we have been up to Clemson's a few times and met many players and parents on unofficial visits. If your son's HS coach is willing to help, by all means ask.

Some schools with large alumni funds have $$ available, I do know they help fund athletic scholarships.

Remember, coaches recruit on need. It would be good to find out what the need is for the year he may be entering. And he would need ot meet academic requirements.
