We always talk about walk up songs and play samples in the car on trips often. My son's taste is totally opposite of what I recommend for him. He picks such lame boring music. I wanted him to use Marilyn Manson to beef up his image a little. He's big and muscular, real manly looking but such a softie with his personality, a big teddy bear, until he's in the game mode. So yeah, Beautiful People - Some awesome drums and a little bit of crazy. LOL!  Most of the kids in his school listen to rap, so most of the walk up songs will be as such. The players have to give their songs to the senior in charge and he has to approve them.

I have been trying to talk my oldest RHP son into using Going Down by Freddie King as a shout out to Kenny Friggin Powers, but have thus far been unsuccessful.

Last season he used The Crunge by Zeppelin along with a Rush song not usually heard on the radio for summer. The name escapes me off hand. He's still thinking about what he will use this year.

He has said that he doesn't want to get too pumped  up while on the mound and needs to stay loose for pitching...

I did the music for our HS team for two seasons. Son had several songs played while warming up but ended Sr season with The Number of the Beast. As for kids' walk up songs, i edited each one with MP3 Cutter so that they were clean and the best part they wanted played until they reached the box.

Here is what we played in various scenarios:

Our Home team Warm up before game: ThunderStruck into For whom the Bell tolls

Visitor Warm up - Fire and Rain  into How Deep is your Love (reverse psychology but mostly funny to see their reactions)

Coach visit to the mound: Jeopardy Theme of course

Coach visit to pull pitcher: Should i stay or should I go?

If pulled: Hey Hey Hey Goodbye

New pitcher: You lost that loving feeling intro from Top Gun in bar scene sung by pilots into Welcome to the Jungle

Home team home run: Horse Nay ( we were the mustangs) into Apache and ends in explosion (bomb)

If we had a rain delay - Blame it on the Rain

Songs between innings:

YMCA- Sweet Caroline- Centerfield-Party Train- Zombie Nation - Pump up the Jam -I wanna Rock-

People Back Home - Uptown Funk - Dont Stop Believin  and i always found a way to throw on some Van Halen.

Phanatic - How about a little J Geils - "Back to Get Ya"?  That will relax him.   I love that song for a reliever or closer

PS...I hope you and the family are doing well!

Love it.  But he's a Sunday starter this year!  Hope you all are well & enjoy the holidays too.

What is the average length your son's song clip is played during the AB?  Saw one mention of 30 seconds.  Ours is more like 15 seconds max and so the song really needs to get started early - no slow starts.  Some kids had some slower starts and when they get cut off at 10 seconds it can sound awfully pedestrian.

Not sure all the schools around here do a great job at vetting song choices between innings.  Way too many country songs with pickups, beer and the two sexes and maybe a lake or at least a muddy back road.  Usually takes place during a summer night with higher temperature (the song , not the ballgame).  Also the occasional rap song where a couple of parents are scratching their heads wondering what they think they just heard.  Sometimes a little shocking when you look up the lyrics (thanks to Shazam).

Love it... great baseball tradition.  But... what's a rain delay?

My son hates Journey, so every time he pitched in HS and I was running the music, guess what got played.  :-)

He's half-jokingly suggested this Spose rap for college, but I don't know if they have music for the pitchers, and doubt it would get played anyway, though there's something weirdly appealing about it given that they're just playing a game, after all.

I tried convincing him once that if he ended up being a reliever, he should ask for Semisonic's Closing Time.  I don't think he's a fan of that idea.

Been trying to convince my son to use The Imperial Death March from Star Wars as his walk up song. He won't do it

Ha ha!  My son actually had the opening theme from Star Wars as his walk up song his junior year in college.  It was great!  We always knew when he was coming to bat.   His sophomore year he had the theme from "Fresh Prince of Bel Air".  Why, I'll never know.  I can't remember what he had his freshman year.

Our HS did not allow walk up songs.  In fact, they are banned according to VHSL rules if I recall correctly.  Music between innings is permissible.

One time our ace pitcher (HS) was not having a great day.  In the 5th when our coach took him out the opposing school played "So you had a bad day....." which was odd since we had a 2 run lead at the time.  Our catcher's Mom was furious and opined her feelings towards the personnel running the audio system.  Even the ump eventually told them to tone it down.

Music is fine as long as it is kept in proper perspective......

Do what you want before the game and in between innings, but:

A. Stop the music when the game resumes. Do not make the Umpire signal to cut the music.

B. As a player do not delay the game while waiting for "your music" to be played. Get out there and be ready to play.

C. Do not use music to embarrass your opposition. NFHS rules forbid it....... remember all it takes to have it stopped is one complaint from the visiting coach.

and finally be aware of irony............Nothing sillier than a pitcher coming in to "wild thing" or "enter the sandman" and promptly walking in the winning run.... or a #9 hitter coming out to "Bad to the bone" or "let the bodies hit the floor".....and getting k'd in 3 pitches.............

Yeah I came into get an inning of work in during a 8-1 conference game on a friday night in Minnesota...was about 30 degrees and after sitting around for about 3 hours I got the call. Come in give up 5 in 2/3 of an inning..my mound visit before I was pulled they played Wild Thing over the speakers and got the same treatment as I left except this time some of the kids at the game started singing..man was that a fun experience.

If your son wants the Rap theme I'm a fan of the song MY HOUSE.  Chorus is:

"Welcome to my house
Baby take control now
We can't even slow down
We don't have to go out
Welcome to my house
Play that music too loud
Show me what you do now
We don't have to go out
Welcome to my house
Welcome to my house"
