He actually suffered for years from the concussion and did research and developed his own product to help him recover from the effects. While in jupiter he got a call from Men's Health to cover the story and promote his product, he is quite the entreprenuer.

Team Israel was housed on the Marlins side, and there was plenty of press and MLB respresentatives for the qualifier. A jewish ball player with a great story caught the attention of a jewish GM and his teams jewish owner.

What I don't get is why the Cubs, after all these years never took the initiative to let him have one more at back that could be called official.

May I ask for clarification on these statements? Something seems...off. (Then again, I am Jewish. Not a full-blooded Jew, but just Jewish.)

I'm kind of torn in two on this one. Part of me is sad for his "lost chance" wondering what might have been? On the other hand, what a great thing the Marlins are doing! All you hear are all the negative stories about their Owner and how the Organization is run; not bringing anyone up to the MLB roster after the expansion date, Ozzie and so forth, BUT then this.

Good for them and I will certainly be in tears during that AB!!

Last week at the qualifier for the World Baseball Classic at Roger Dean Stadium (spring home for Marlins and Redbirds) in Jupiter, Team Israel (Greenberg being on the team) used the Marlins clubhouse for about 10 days.

Greenberg as well as the owner of the Marlins, the GM as well are jewish.

Now understand that here in south florida, Marlin fans are not too happy with how their team has done.

This does make a feel good about your team story for the last week of the season and has made Loria and company look good.

Is that clear enough?

There is a lot of good press and negative stuff in the local news. FWIW, Adam has agreed that his salary for the day will be donated back to the Marlins foundation who will donate it to the foundation here that is known for it's work for spinal cord injuries.

BTW, there was a deal struck before the Today show, who did a poor job of trying to make it seem like it was a surprise. Kind of a giveaway seeing him at the Marlins training facility all decked out in Marlin gear before the surprise. Smile

Maybe a bit cynical to suggest that had Greenberg not been Jewish, the Marlins wouldn't have given him the chance.

In any event, good for the player, hooray for his advocate, and kudos to the Marlins. Would be cool if Matt Harvey is pitching for the Mets since they are from towns about 40 miles apart.

...and played for the same college team.

Yes, he was his coach; and, yes, he was there tonight. That didn't surprise me, as it's consistent with the fact that he and any other assistants whose schedules allow ALWAYS attend their former players' debuts at the major league level. Tonight, in my opinion, was even more than that; if that's possible.

As I mentioned earlier, a number of his former college teammates were also there. The former Head of Baseball Operations has reported that he and Coach Fox both bought their Greenberg Marlins jerseys at the same time.

There's going to be a terrific party tonight hosted by the Marlins.
