Army/Navy this weekend in Annapolis.

Army comes into the weekend riding it's first 3 game winning streak of the season and a record of 11-18 and 6-4 in their last 10. Starting between 4 and 7 freshman every week, Army started off dismally. 2007 Patriot League player of the year, Cole White is back from injury and hitting over .400, while Army has raised it's team batting average over 40 points in the last month and is now over .300.

Navy boasts a 19-13 overall record and sits atop the Patriot League standings with a 6-2 mark, 3 games above Army's 3-5 conference record. Navy comes into the series from the opposite direction, having dropped their last 3.

The 4 game series consists of two doubleheaders, a 7 and 9 inning tilt each day. Sundays 7 inning matchup will be televised on CSTV.

Army takes game 3. I believe that gives them the coveted "Star" for winning game 3. They have also taken the season series with the finale tomorrow at Navy.

Game 3
Winning Pitcher-- Ben Koenigsfeld pitched 8 innings with 6 strike outs and no walks.

Losing Pitcher-- Mark McCoy takes the loss in 3.2 innings of work with 5 strike outs and two walks.

I "watched" the game via GameTracker on Navy's web site. It appeard to me that errors are what cost the Midshipmen today. Navy had 9 hits and 2 runs while Army put up 10 runs with 12 hits. Navy had 3 errors to Army's 1.

The two teams finish out the series tomorrow with one game.

Go Army!

Army brought the brooms with them to Annapolis. The Black Knights today completed a 4-game sweep of the Naval Academy with a 7-4 win.

Winning pitcher was CPLZ's son, Kirk Porter, throwing 3 innings with one strike out and two walks.

The loss went to Navy's Yale Eckert with his 5.2 innings of work and 3 strikes and one walk.

Army improved to 15-18 on the year and 7-5 in Patriot League competition. Navy fell to 20-17 and 6-7 in Patriot League competition.
