Had a situation where there was some players that thought there were 3 outs, not 2. The runners on the bases ran off the field and some of the fielders began to as well. Likely due to players hearing other players say there were 3 outs. The fielders realized it was only 2 outs. Took the ball to base now unoccupied by the runner for third out. How should the ump handle it. Game ump seemed uncertain and said the coaches should've appealed to the ump first. thanks for your help

Some say the umpire should correct it as soon as he hears someone "say" there are X outs when there are Y outs.

To me, that umpire is interjecting himself into the game possibly. It may be an honest mistake or it may be a game the team is playing on the other to see if they can "get away with one". Unless the umpire is asked directly, I say leave them ignorant. If the offense leaves, call the out once they enter the dugout. If the defense leaves, score the run if the offense gets there.

The umpire doesn't know if it is a decoy so why should he correct them. If they don't ask, they don't get told.
