Do you give this stat much weight when looking at a pitcher's stats?

Anytime BA is considered for anything, there’s gonna be “issues because BA is so dependent on both scorer’s judgment and luck.

There are many many different metrics for pitchers that are a much better measurement of skill or success, and one I use can be seen here. http://www.infosports.com/scor...ages/objpitching.pdf

The thing I like about this particular metric, is that everything’s totally objective, and that makes it easy to see which pitcher allows the fewest runners per batter, and that’s really what makes runs possible. With that information, you could also compute a TRA (Total Runner Average) by dividing the total runners by the total batters, which would give a much better number than BA.

Thanks not sure if i quite understand your metric..it looks interesting but runners would that not include a runner that reached on error and does that not involve scorer judgement?

could you provide a detailed example?

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I didn’t notice you’d posted something in reply to me.

Yes, runners that ROE are definitely included, as a runner reached on a BIP. BY including all runners reaching on all BIPS, it removes the scorer completely.
