Hi my son is a 2009 graduate who attended a small D-1 college in Texas and is a catcher. As a family we have came to the conclusion that it is best for him not to go back there. Our main reasons where that his former coach cut 10 players who where on scholarship halfway through the season. Keep in mind that at the time his team was 1st in their conference and a few of the players he cut where starters and had some of the best GPA's on the team. Another reason is that there is no development baseball wise, and there is a lack of academic help for baseball players as well as most student athletes from what we have seen and where told. The weight room at this school is smaller than many average size high school weightrooms and the trainer seems to be lacking knowledge in proper baseball exercises and Stretching. My son is still 18 and has been to more than a few perfectgame tournaments and has filled out a few questionnaires for 5-7 mlb team prior to college. He played for Reggie Williams Dawg Pound here in Tampa Florida and His summer coach will be helping him get into another school but I wanted to see if anyone else could possibly help us with any other options that may be available. For any parents who may not know this already I advise that you take a THOROUGH look at a school before deciding to commit. Look at EDUCATION and THE SCHOOL first and then take a look at the baseball program. DO not attend a school solely on scholarship money if you have other options or can afford to. Just because they give you more than another school, it could still turn out to be a complete waste.

Thanks,
CP13

Hi!
I am so sorry that your son had a disappointing freshman year here in Texas. Has he looked into JUCO programs either here in TX or in FL? Also, you might suggest that he contact any other programs that were interested in him last year. Just a few ideas.

So many times these bumps in the road seem like dead ends, but often end up as windows of opportunity. This past year's adversity will strengthen his character in ways that may only be fully understood down the road. Everything happens for a reason in the twists and turns of life's journey.

I thought it may have to do with this at first glance

But you say they were starters and were contributing so I too would like to know. Have your son get on the almighty facebook and go ask them. I'm sure the coach had to give them a reason when he gave them the pink slip.

Where is your son wanting to play, i.e. school, local vs. away...?
