They are going after it pretty aggressively. Just got their first verbal, a kid who had an offer from OSU as well as Oregon and chose Oregon. The Oregon offer was 35%, the OSU offer was 25%, and the kid was from the Eugene area, so probably shouldn't make too much of the fact he chose Oregon over OSU.

I met their pitching coach a couple weeks ago. Young guy, seemed pretty sharp.

The one thing you can count on is that they will have the money to build a good program there.

OSU's new pitching coach, Andrew Checketts, is a great guy who worked at UCR and was AJ's pitching coach for 3 years. (He looks a lot younger than he actually is, I believe ... looked younger than most of his pitchers at UCR.) Besides being an Oregonian himself and feeling at home in the Northwest, and in addition to being a very very good coach, Andrew is a great role model for his players ... high morals, a respectful attitude towards his fellow coaches AND his players, and a hard worker. I don't believe he expects anything more out of his pitchers than he would expect of himself (which was basically the way the entire UCR coaching staff operated). We consider ourselves fortunate that AJ had the opportunity to work with Andrew and I can speak for AJ when I say that he believes Andrew is one of the finest pitching coaches around.

Don't know if many of you know about Oregon's Head Coach, George Horton. I do, because I played against his teams all the time and they were always good. He is the type of coach that gets the most out of his players. When he won the national title in 2004, his team was down in talent from 2003 IMO. They started out 15-16 and ended up winning it all. The guy can coach.

As for the new program, Oregon just got a $100 million dollar donation from Phil Knight, the owner of Nike and a Oregon alum. They are talking about a multi-million dollar baseball stadium that should be state of the art.

I know that if I was being recruited by them, I would SERIOUSLY consider going there.

Beavers and Ducks, don't be offended. Checketts is UO's (University of Oregon) new pitching coach, not OSU's (Oregon State University).
Happy New Year everyone. Can anyone esp Mr. baseballbrat comment on how things went after his official visit and if your son went there, what is the status of the program after 2 seasons? Is PK Stadium already built. I saw the training facility and it is pretty state of the art. Any feedbacks will be appreciated.
