Some of what I am going to say is speculation, the other is fact having players in the past play on the Oriolelanders teams.

Jim Gilbert (past coach) and Dean Albany (current coach) do a very good job of participating in some high caliber fall tournaments. Lots of college coaches regularly watch them, because of the quality of the players, and because of who they are playing.

You are correct about the lack of publicity for tryouts. In my opinion, this team has become a training ground for future MD O's players. And for the most part, the players are very good. However, in the past, the tryouts were highly publicized (newspaper ads, lots of coaches being told to spread the word, etc...). That was back when the guy running the thing had no summer team to recruit. His only deal was the fall ball team. Now, if a coach tells his players about the tryouts, he stands a chance of losing them due to the heavy recruiting push made by the current regime (and it takes place all fall long). The last time we had players play on the team, they were recruited unbelievably. Fortunately, our players had enough confidence in our club that the recruitment didn't work.
The Oriolanders is one of the top rated fall showcase team on the East Coast. They are known throughout the country by colleges and MLB scouts to carry the best players they can round up from NVA/DC/MD/PA.

Tryouts are invitation only because they and the Orioles want it this way. Tryouts for the Orioles team at the East Coast Showcase in August is held at the same time. This is why they do not advertise the tryouts.

Some players make both, the EC showcase team and the fall Oriolanders, others do not. Players on this team are MLB prospects or D1 caliber players. The teams are chosen by Dean as well as as other recruiters for the Baltimore Orioles.

Dean Albany, in my opinion is in this for only one thing.. To get players into college!!!! He is highly regarded by anyone who knows him and his dedication to the game of baseball and he works tiredlessly to assist players in the recruiting process.
The Oriole-landers aren't the only game in town if you're a talented player who wants to continue playing at a higher level after high school. I'd suggest checking out the Mid Maryland Red Sox. Their web address is:

http://www.eteamz.com/midmarylandredsox/

Go there, click the email link and get details on tryouts from Dave Morse. You'll notice on their website that a very significant number of outstanding players from their program got signed by colleges just from last year's class. They are a very similar program to the O'Landers as they are sponsored by the Boston Red Sox. They have a tradition of getting virtually all of their players signed and getting excellent exposure for their players. They certainly have done an outstanding job and are competitive with the O'landers in every respect. Best of all, you don't have the "sales pitch" or any of the related baggage involved because the head coach doesn't have a summer team.

Good luck!
I am somewhat confused with the comments on the connection between the fall showcase team and the summer team. The fall showcase team is for HIGH SCHOOL players wanting to showcase their talent in efforts to find the right fit for the next level of play...college ball.

Dean's SUMMER team is a collegiate wooden bat team. I am sure that getting to know the kids and their talent on the fall team gives Dean an edge on who might (future) play on his summer team, but I dont know of any "sales piece" or "related baggage" that is involved. My son happened to play for both of these teams.

If you feel you can compete, Cuban, send me a private message and I will attempt to contact Dean to let him know of your interest. This happened to me once before and the invite was issued...they are interested in finding the boys that can play and compete...it is not an exclusive private club!!!

Good luck to you!
i must confess that i spoke out of line regarding the other program. needless to say, there are many various stories and rumors that run around about all of the many programs in the area and it is improper to comment on them without first hand knowledge.

cuban lefty - the red sox offer opportunities for younger players as well. i'm aware of three young men who were members of the team as rising sophomores (in past years) who have given scouts several years to see them and as such, have increased their exposure significantly.

i'm not part of the program, nor do i benefit from it in any way. i'm only commenting on it because it is the one that i'm most familiar with because they feature players from our general geographic region.
First let me say that Dean Albany has been instrumental in helping alot of kids get exposure. I too have been able to secure invites for Kids...only because they are willing to give a kid a chance not because of anything I do.

It is about the talent but not all talent is known. That's what makes this site interesting.

JustMoM,

The last word i got was that the East Coast pro rotated to the Cubs. It was the Orioles and Camden yards was alot of how they picked the team.

If I'm wrong about Cubs someone let me know.

ORIOLEANDERS first class and all about the Kids.

Why did you edit my first post and write a new paragraph. You re-wrote my post and your way out of line for doing this. ?????

A previous questioner asked if anyone knew the roster of players for last years Oriolelanders team and I had a roster so I answered this person with the names, position, and where they went to High School. You deleted their names that I provided for this other person - NOT YOU.

If you had a comment to make about my post, you could have made a post yourself without editing my post and deleting the players names and other information I provided. ???????

In fact you changed the entire context of my post. ???????

If my post was not improper, then who are you to change my post. You are stepping way out of bounds and being disrespectful as this was my first post.

Sorry we had to meet like this ( Justmom ) but you surely must have a personal reason why you deleted those players names without due cause. ????

Some very good players representing our area. Our team had the opportunity to play against:

Trey Crabill - St. Pauls's
Patrick Nolan - Calvert Hall
Brad Miller - Mount St. Joe
Brandon Floyd - Mount St. Joe
Scott Krieger - Calvert Hall

And U know about the great talent of :

Caldwell- Loyola
Brandon Erbe - McDonogh
Brad Rifken - Parks

Again a great representation of the quality of baseball found in the Baltimore Metro area.
