The World Cup involves a banned topic, sometimes known as "Communist Kickball".

Having said that, it looks very pretty in HD, I'll confess to having watched a few minutes of it but yesterday an Italian fan was killed, apparently by a fan of Ghana in a bar, for cheering too much, so my previous opinion of the sport stands.
I am watching right now. I have enjoyed the games and pageantry. Except for the US game, it has been enjoyable. Great athletes, but what a bunch of whiners and floppers. I don't see that many bodies laying down on the field in a football(American) game. They are a bunch of well conditioned and skilled babies. Now, Aussie rules football, that is a manly man sport. lol

Hang on for the Rugby World Cup next year, big, for a Manly Sport! Wink

I always enjoy the World Cup and am disapponted I have to follow on game cast (how 'bout that Japan-Australia game?)

The SA teams are notorious for their dramatics; still haven't figured out why the officials pay them a blind bit of attention ---- the rule in SA-involved games should be 'no blood: no foul'.

But that's a great part of the fun of the WC, seeing all the different styles of play and how they measure up.

Hey big, was Spain that good or the Ukraine that bad?

And why is it that the US seems to have a problem stepping up to international competition? First the WBC and now this ---- lack of experience as we have plenty of competition here? Complacent? Wha?

(Good one, JT Big Grin. Of course, with the current political climate, the players may also have been warned not to be offensive. Wink)
Husband has always referred to it as a communist sport...but son home from college....where he, with no help from his Dad, developed a fondness for the game. When you go to a small school....guess you support all the sports.

So....the World Cup is on our wide screen....I'm starting to like it....as others have said.....the pagentry, athleticism, and dramatics....lots of fun.....but we have this grumby, old man sitting off in the corner....pouting.

JT....about the French...good one..... Smile

Spain really has a lot of good players. Maybe just this one time they put it all together, while the Ukraine smelled it up. They looked like uh................the US team. lol

I was rooting for the Aussies after the ref blew the call and allowed a goal that should have beeen a foul. It was an exciting ending.

The constant flopping should be a foul. I remember last cup on of the Brazilians got hit in the thigh with the ball and fell to the ground holding his face. One of the guys from the other team struck the ball after play ended, Ronaldo fell to the ground holding his face and the player that kicked the ball, got red carded. Too much. Big Grin

TR, Brazil is much better than they played yesterday.

ya were only 1 win away from the next round

Gosh we stink!!!!!!

future,

If losing a game (didn't score a goal) and tieing a game (where you score no goals but the other team does something that is called an "own goal"); and, the key is beating something called GHANA is emblematic of a good team...WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're probably thinking that they are so "good" that we should break them up!
Certainly can't say that we deserved to go through, but we wuz robbed on that call that led to the second Ghanaian goal. Of course, then we looked truly superfulous when we got our own penalty kick that could have tied it up......

I shall miss T&T and the Ivory Coast --- always like a Cinderella Story, ever since those Mad Dogs from Cameroon in 1990. Well, not Mad Dogs but "Indomitable Lions" --- gotta love a team with a name that grand, led/carried/dragged by a player who admitted to being 38, but was suspected to be considerably older.

So....Go England!
Why does everyone call it communist kickball?Seriously, have you ever been to a International match?I saw some bad things on TV,but had the pleasure of attending 3 games in the 02 WC and it was a blast. It sounds close minded in my opinion, because 85 nations cant be wrong about a sport. We are the only nation that doesnt have this as a major sport, and I think its a shame.

PS.USA civil rights records arent exactly good either.
