Well today is opening day, with 5 games scheduled to start the tournament (no school today., with our varsity actually playing 2 games.

Unfortunately, it poured all day yesterday and last night, and is just a slow icky drizzle all day today :-(

We'll try again tomorrow, but I don't see much chance.

Our varsity played three this past Saturday, it showered on and off throughout the first two games. The third game was played in a steady rain and everything looked more like it should have been a football game than baseball, as muddy as the players were afterward. The coaches were both being stubborn and neither wanted to be the one who called the final game of the day. Everyone was slipping and couldn't get a good grip on the ball. A few pitches got away and nearly beaned hitters right in the dome. Fortunately, nobody got hurt, but there was certainly more brawn than brains being displayed by the fearless leaders, aka head coaches, of each team.
Yup, team's been practicing in the gym since last week. Normal annual rainfall is 15" ... we're at 31" so far. Radio report was that SoCal now has received more rainfall so far this year than the nominal average for Seattle.

Our 1st scrimmage versus another HS is this coming Saturday, but we'll need at least 2-3 days of sun to dry out the fields.
We did get games in last night!!! The sun came out and dried the field and we got in three games yesterday!!

We lost our opener, but this opening tournament isn't about winning, we invite teams that bring lots of parents and therefore, a good bit of money :-) Our guys did hit very well, a lot better than I've seen them hit in a couple of years :-)
I never said the boys were playing to lose. As a matter of fact, they played better than I've seen them play in a couple of years. (I'm a parent by the way). The reality is, this tournament is a pure fundraiser. But it does give the players a chance to see some good competition at home before Area Games start.

These guys have had every administrative hardball thrown at them this year, and quite honestly almost weren't allowed to field teams, so in everybody's eyes, even starting the season last night was a victory for us.
