Good student and all that. He appoligized and asked for his DVD. viewed the DVD and e-mailed me to get intouch ASAP.
You can't sit back and wait.

Trick,

Although I'm sure they would love to come to Hawaii to see you ... that's probably not going to happen.

You need to go to them. Research your schools, make contact with the coaches, plan a trip where you can cover as much territory as is feasible. JC coaches are not constrained by NCAA rules. They can meet with you, and even arrange a private workout to evaluate you. Our experience last year was very positive with respect to coaches making themselves available to our schedule. (We were traveling 1500 miles to find a JUCO.)

One word of encouragement though. If you are an '06 graduate. NOW is the time to start making those contacts and arrange a trip. By May or June, many spots will be filled unless you are a pitcher. Not impossible to find someplace, but more difficult as time progresses.

Also, if you have not done so, check out Kansas and the Jayhawk Conference. Great baseball, a large number of JUCOs (19 schools in the conference), and probably a reputation as a stronger league than Colorado and Utah. Just my opinion.
You will usually see local kids at local Juco programs. It is not cost effective to go out of your state. If your in Cal you will have a lot of quality Juco's to choose from. You can go to their winter camps, if they have them and they will be easier for you to contact and stay in touch with. Juco coaches also get to see only local players at their HS game as they don't have the budgets to go out of state. Consder a good program in Cal.

Trick Daddy, Dont forget about the WUE. You should know by now what this is, but in case you dont - WUE link (No out of state tuition costs, jsut 150% of in state tuition) Lots of junior colleges here in the west have dorms on campus.
Seems to have been a bunch of kids from Hawaii playing in Arizona.

As others have said, you will have to go see them (if you are not being recruited by them now). They will be practicing right after new year's day. Call ahead and ask to work out with the team. Go get one of the spots for next year. You can sign Jan. 15th. I'm not sure how the california and Washington schools work - different governing body than the njcaa.
Coach Ric - You probably have more experience with JUCOs than I do. I do know though that many JUCOs recruit from other states and parts of the country. Maybe this varies from parts of the country? The one where my son plays has kids from Oregon to Michigan - actually no kids from the state where it is located. One he received an offer from in TN had kids from New York to Florida. One in AL had several from the North East and a few from surrounding states. The coach in TN travelled more than and worked harder at recruiting than any coach I've ever met. The other coaches travelled significant distances as well. Often times it's a harder road to go away from home, but with the networks that coaches/scouts have and the exposure opportunities showcases provide, it certainly can happen.

TrickDaddy - I hope you've read the articles and information on recruiting here on the site. I think you'll find a lot of helpful information there also. Like Montana Dad said - JUCOs can allow you to work out in front of them, so that's a huge plus if you can get to them or grab their attention. Many JUCOs are fully funded and allowed to give up to 24 tuition/books and some can offer housing as well. I don't believe the CA JUCOs have scholarships - like BasicMom says, they're not a part of the NJCAA.

Good points lafmom. I have checked some rosters from other states, and you are correct. However, maybe because there are so many kids playing in florida, most juco rosters are filled with kids not only from florida, but sometimes from the county where the school is located. There are occassional kids from out of state. In new england there were not many out of state kids either. It could be regional, or it could be that I'm getting old.
